Lets put it this way : if i offered any of you an Altezza or a KE30 for free, you'd take the Altezza without batting an eyelid :P

Yes, but for financial reasons only, then I'd sell the Altezza and buy another KE70...and make it really, really fast... :D

By your generalisation, I have an old school because I am poor? Even though I have owned around 20 cars before this, and paid well over $10,000 for at least 7-8 of them, all of them being at least semi new-school...hell, I'd take my KE70 over my Mum's brand new XR6BT...you forget that some people aren't forced into owning old schools by financial situations, they just enjoy driving a classy car... 8)

LOL classy... Thats the one word i wouldnt use to describe 70's cars, not unless you're talking American muscle cars ;)

You do realise that 20 years ago people would have been saying the exact same things about KE30's vs the 'classy' cars of 1950-60? Its all a matter of perspective, and from a safety, economy, performance and comfort viewpoint, new cars win hands down.

And i'm not saying every oldskool car owner is broke, i'm saying most are... the majority of people buy old cars because you can pick one up in good nick for $1500-2000, vs $15,000-20,000 for a new car ;)

Thats not saying much : I'd take a 50cc go-kart over car coming out of Protectionist Central, also known as Australia.

You might know audio, but your lack of knowledge on the hunk of metals (or 99% plastics in a new cars case... ) that surround your audio components never fails to astound me...

What you seem to be saying, is that these 'broke' old school owners are only voting old school because that is what they own, not what they prefer...
Do you believe that just because they have never owned an new school, that they have never driven newer cars, or travelled in enough to form opinions based on what they prefer, not what they own? :?

Hmmm... Honestly guys, Im of two opinions....

I have a KP60 starlet, considered OLD school,
And a BZR trueno, considered NEW school.

They are both great cars, but, the both have certain merits thats make them better than the other.

OLD School : KP60 - Cheaper on spare parts and has a classic style which appeals to many rally enthusiasts. Easy to work on, basic knowledge of mechanics to work on it. (I did an engine upgrade/transplant recently with no trouble).
But, prone to break down due to age, rust and 25 years on NZ roads.

NEW School : BZR - Comfort and style. Modern accessories factory fitted. Computer controlled tuning and engine management. Fairly reliable if treated properly, (like not trashing it on the track he he he).
But, when it does break down, parts are expensive and theres a hell of alot more technology in the engine that unless properly trained you would have no idea what plug or part goes where let alone do a tranplant.

And I would have to agree with Blackrazor, about if you would take a KE30 or an Altezza, dont BS and say you wouldnt take the Altezza, coz most of you would. :D

Yes, everyone would, but personally, only due to financial reasons, it wouldn't stay in my possession long.

Thats the dumbest thing ever to expect someone to take the KE30, its exactly the same as having $1500 in one hand, and $15,000 in the other, and saying which do you want?

Ah, but if you are a true Old School fan, and finances wouldnt come into it, would you take the ke30?

If they were still the exact same car in every respect, except value wise they were both worth $1500, I'd take the KE30, no shit.

Ok, heres a scenario : Your coming to the Megameet in October, but your flying up and have no vehicle to use for the weekend. Your good mate Bad20v offers you one of his cars to drive for the weekend, do you:

A : Take the old KP60 Starlet?

or,

B : Take the New BZR Trueno?

No, i'm saying that if the going market rate was $15,000 for a new Altezza, and $15,000 for a new KE30, the Altezza would be bought by 95% of the people on these forums. There is no doubt about that in the slightest, make a vote if you dont beleive it.

So my point stands : old skool cars are popular because they are cheap, because if they were the same price as a new car, almost noone would buy them.

Oh, and i freely admit i dont know as much as many people about cars, but at least i'm not arrogant enough to think i know EVERYTHING about cars like some people :P

Hmmm...you are confusing me... :?

You don't seem to be staying on one point...

I say old schools are winning because people like them better, this is not about what you OWN, it is about what you PREFER, and surely people are still capable of making a judgement about whether they like new schools, or old schools better without ever owning a new school, because most people would have been in/driven enough new cars to form their own valid opinion, so my point stands, being poor doesn't prevent you from knowing whether you like old or new school better.

i would PREFER to drive my 1982 corolla over my mums 1990 celica, even though the celica is much quicker, more comfortable and easier in the morning, theres just something about driving an older car that appeals to me(and obviously alot of other toyspeed members).
