Who are the worst drivers

Yea I dont think asians or old people are bad drivers.
They just have different reactions.

Old people are just slow, slow to change lanes, take off, turn etc etc which means it's very easy to predict what they're doing. And easy to avoid accidents.

'asians' ( with no disrespect at all ) are similar. They're not bad drivers, they just don't react the same as some people. Once again, it is easy to predict what they're doing.

The worst group of drivers are under 25's. Not all of us are bad but we ARE the worst kind.

Or some asains, indians etc are not used to western technology that moves fast, instead there are some which are used to a horse (donkey, what ever..) driven wagon which is slow and unresposnive alot of the time.

I Should have been more specific! i meant modernised asain countries like japan western-ised, but places like inidia, Pakastan (other asian parts) blah blah.. are backward 3rd world places.

I'm just comparing the 2. Who would you be more afraid of?
An old lady slowly pulling into your lane without noticing you, or
An 18 year old kid on his restricted licence changing as fast as possible.
Both near misses.

I should have worded myself properly. I dont think they're the worst drivers. Sure it is dangerous, but in my 4 years of driving, my closest calls have all come from young people doing exactly what the insurance companies think they're doing.

I still stand my hatred for Taxi drivers though, not because they're dangerous but because they stop where they shouldn't stop and push in where they shouldn't push in.

definately the most dangerous dangers. that and middle aged drunk drivers :-p but yes as a generalisation, those young people can be silly!

and a lot of that sillyness is caused by frastration - having no tolerance for grandma drivers. most of it is just showing off though

I disagree with asian drivers being predictable. Following an asian (I dont know his specific country of origin) man around a roundabout, all of a sudden he brakes and stops (stand on the picks!) then proceeds to try and REVERSE AROUND THE ROUNDABOUT! WTF? He nearly drives straight into me cos he is not looking (me smashing the horn) and then appears all offended by me honking at him!

Naturally I *555 him and got his plate. Got a call from the cops the next day - No licence, brothers car, 2 year overstayer. "Mr Chan will be on a plane back to (wherever) later in the week"

This would have to be my worst encounter with a "foreigner". But in general (I know I'm stereotyping, but its true) asian drivers are hard to predict cos:

A) They brake and stop for no apparent reason (look at a house, read a map) in the middle of the road

B) They dont seem to be able to locate the indicators and when they do they cant find them again to turn them off!

C) Driving without looking, whether reversing out of a carpark (thats where then dent in you door came from) or just pulling out at the worst possible time

D) They do something completely not even mentioned in the road code (like reversing around a roundabout, or as I saw coming back from meremere stop on the inside lane of the motorway when the cop pulls them over )

But their mostly slow reactions/driving speed (slower than me, or I would think most performance enthusiasts) serve to reduce the crashes they are involved in quite a bit. I think as a group (stereotype) they are generally quite oblivious to other ppl on the road.

However as an example, a country like China with a 1.3 billion population has alot of people that live out of the cities and have no contact with cars traffic rules etc.

Instead these rural chinese folks use ancient ways of travel like horses and a cart to travel them and their lovely produce around their farm.

Then say one of these chinese farmers comes to a western country like NZ (able to get in as an NZ white man (typical) has married an chinese lady, which alows the chinese lady to bring in her whole family ) and some how one of these people coming here get into driving a car on public roads (usually with no licence or a bought licence).

How is this chinese/asain person going to be good drivers when they are not used to advance technology (compared to horse-and-cart back home in rural china) and have only been using it for 5 minutes! Plus they wouldnt be able to read most signs, ie a 'Give Way' sign as its in English!!

The result was they would be a driver with poor judgement, no or little knowledge of road rules etc. Ive seen people from asain decent driving showing signs of what i have said above. So basically a driver cant get worse that this.

But the good part about this is it can be really really hilarious watching them drive, park etc.

Your post is flawed, what do you think the New Zealand immigration office whatever is for? To come into NZ, there are two ways. Money and points system(degree,age etc).

rural chinese folks who use horses etc "will not" be able to get into NZ. The air ticket is enough to finish off their life savings. Those who do have money in China would easily have a car or two.

I feel that the main problem is with the crackdown on people with no NZ license. From what I can gather, you can drive for 3 months with an overseas license but most people who come into NZ do not bother sitting the New Zealand full license test.

However, I must say that NZ drivers are one of the worst drivers in a sense. Put a NZ driver in one of the asian countries and they will probably break down and go get a cab instead. NZ drivers are "too" law abiding which is good but once someone fails to give away or stop at a stop sign, an accident usually happens. There is no defensive driving whatsoever.

In a foreign country, drivers expect someone not to give way or stop. It is free for all, not uncommon to see cars within 10cm~ of each other, motorcyclist left , right and in front of you etc.

Hence it takes a bit of getting used to the NZ driving scene where road rules are actually important and to be followed.

well speaking of "good NZ licences": what does it take to get NZ licence? Here is the answer: Takes about 20min to read "road code" (the book which resembles 3yo kid book with pretty pictures), and 10min to sit a test with same pretty pictures on the test sheet, a person who has no idea about how to drive will pass the test just using the common sense... And when you sit driving test is also pathetic, randon unqualified "test officers", nail people on rediculos stuff who have sense of driving just to make money, and pass people who have no feel of the car or idea what is happening arround them and they pass them becuase they are just old lady and they think they will never speed etc...

Have you ever seen road code from other countries (USA or UK not including)? Most likely will be a fat thin paper book with small print, lots of numbers / laws and drivers/passenger rights, same goes for the test, and driving test actually includes emergency braking/manouvirng simulating the bad weather condition etc... Not how well you can bloody parralel parking (not that I have problem with that)...

Seen this 1 asian couple driving in like the "kitty litter" on side of the road when i was driving threw the Desert Road.... Danger to everybody on the road!

i say cops need to learn a few things about d driving courtesy

was on the northern sunday night in the lane that turns off towards the ports (2nd lane), and this coppa was in the lane that goes to the north western (3rd lane). i was maybe 2m behind him goin 100km/h in the 2nd lane when suddenly he indicates to turn into my lane, and proceeds to do so (dosnt wait 3 seconds). anyway i slam on the anchors (lucky no cars behind me) and slow down to about 30km/h. and all this was like 70m before the divider thingy that seperates the exits. and so it turns out the cop just wanted to stop in the median strip just infront of the divider, with his indicator still on!

if this was anyone else i would have been hard on the airhorns and giving them the fingers

and if there were many other cars near me could have easily caused an accident

Me personally, I feel the people giving people licences these days have a lot to answer for as well. I still think that too many people out there think that driving is their right, not a privledge. Sorry if you think I'm wrong, but seriously, it is. Your in control of 1 ton plus of metal, on someone elses property.
