X - Skid control.
Controlling the car when it is skidding... Doesn't specify which direction it's skidding...

So, was my post earlier having fun poked at it? It's so hard to tell when all you've got is text and no visible expressions...

I've heard prodrive was a really good course. I think I'd better add it to my list of things to do.

Maybe we should change this to say...

A lot of people seem keen on the idea of a prodrive course thing including me, why dont we organise one and see who would be keen? I know they have them at manfield all the time, and im guessing Taupo?

So who'd be keen for later in the year depending on costs etc.....

Anyone keen for organisation? Im not good at that side of things

they are available but they "suggest" that you "donate" $50 for the course, instead of schoolkids getting it for free.....I wish I was back at school... :x

I understand they are a little understaffed in the central north island at the moment, would pay to contact them though. Effectively they are targeted at driving age school kids and that is what their sponsors expect so I doubt it would be a very cheap to get them out for a private group. My advice is join your local car club and volunteer when Prodive comes to town. But trust me don't do it with a hangover

at least in (victoria at least) australia the cops are strict, but the roads are built properly, you can get places on time without speeding.

and they have a graduated licensing scheme.

learners licences (16 to 18) you can't drive without fully licensed driver at any time.
when you turn 18 you can get your P-Plates (auto) or (manual)
P-plates are displayed on the car, you have your pplates for 3 years.

while on your pplates you are not allowed to drive a car over a certain power to weight ration or displacement to weight ratio, without a written exemption on your licence (such as you drive your parents car and its an XR8 or something)

while on your p-plates you must at all times have a 0 BAC (blood alcohol count)
when you get your full licence it must always be below 0.05 BAC and if you blow the breathylizer you are taken straight into the "booze bus" and you are taken for a blood test.

you can't drive around in Victoria on a Friday or saturday night, or any night where there is a big boosing celebration on, without seeing about 5 booze buses, in all sorts of locations.

they perform over 10 million breath tests a year in victoria, and only have a population of 6.4 million.

they now have one of the lowest fatality per 10,000 people in population in the world,

in real terms (not statistically actual numbers) more people in new zealand die each year in road fatalities than in victoria which has twice the population.

so I think the police over there are doing a fairly well implemented job.

but to be fair, the aussie government "Educated", "Engineered"-(built decent roads), then Enforced.

end rant.
eh. its friday.

Seems sort of harsh (but I can understand why they want to,) to raise the age limit when a few stupid drivers screw it up for the rest of us younger drivers. Im not an idiot so why should I not be able to get my licence (Im 16 on my restricted).

I think, no matter how many license it won't change character of a person.
I think in long term, how parent raise the kids does make difference. It's not a bulletproof though.
Also awareness, no matter how underpowered the car is, once the driver drive recklessly then it still be a recipe for accident. couple years back I almost got hit by a car on pedestrian crossing. Turn out the driver was busy texting and didn't look ahead (She wasn't even know that I was jumping aside and cursing like mad, she just keep driving her 1.3litre starlet slowly pass like nothing happen)
Anyone who want to buy car need to have a clean license or maybe some prove of their driving skill (I seen alot people bought car but can't even drive! and had no idea of new zealand's law)
Nowdays alot of overseas teenager with loads of $$$ (I know that some of them even got over 200k per year just for pocket money) they buy high powered car like peanut. those contribute to accident rate in NZ.

Im 15, I think raising the age limit would be a good thing, but i wouldnt want to get caught back and have to wait all over again. I Have my restricted and the driver instructor person said i was the best person she had seen for a very long time. Seriously, she said she couldnt give me a mark (as in, mark for doing things wrong). She said in general, the rural kids are a lot better drivers then city kids. She asked if i lived on a farm, which i had until 5 years ago, and was driving around on the farm for a good 3-4 years before that.

Im not a reckless driver, i dont want to get held back for these other 15yo,s that just want to get there licences so they can go do 'drifities' in there fwds.

i hear ya, i was able to drive a fully manual car when i was 9-10 y/o on the farm, Also learning in paddocks where the surface is slippery IMO helps you understand the basics of what happens when you lose control, How to avoid it and sometimes how to correct it.

Maybe they should make you sit a paddock bashing driving course before you get your learners haha

Hmmmm 15 to 16 isnt too bad. But I dont see much of a difference between those two. Half the problem is younger people taking passengers which tends to make teenagers (not all) act stupid to show off infront of their friends. Theres nothing the cops or government can do to stop that.

its probably been said 100 times but i cant be bothered reading the whole freeking post....

so i recon a boost in drivers age to get your licence and a certain engine class for learner and restricted drivers... cos most of the drop kicks who cause the problems cruise round on there restricted...

but also stated that you can do 100k + in a 1200cc car its takes a lot longer to get there

but what really pisses me off is theres really 3 groups in town,
theres the guys in the dodgy old rusted pieces of shit that drink in the car and cause fights
then theres the guys in the high performance cars who are just out to thrash the shit out it and drag of anything with wheels
and then there are the guys with cars who spend hours and money on there car with performance but at the same time... more expense suspention, high performance tires, safer race seats (properly installed)
and they are probably the safest cars on the road, but we all get labeled under the one name......

I think they should

A) make all people on their restricted licences display a Big white "R" with red around it on their front AND rear windscreens,

make it a $500 + 1/2 the points on your licence on the spot fine for not displaying the "R" plates, and have the plates for sale at every service station for about $5.
And make it really not worth the risk of getting caught without the plates.

(this is kind of what they do in victoria, australian, except you have a Probationary licence, so you have a big "P")

while on your restricted, have a limit to the Power to Weight ratio of a car that can be driven without an exemption.

If (as someone mentioned earlier) you needed to drive your parents car which was over the power to weight ratio, then make it so that a person with their restricted could apply in writing, and not have an exemption unreasonably with-held.

OR

have a Probationary licence that you get after your restricted, and before your full licence

on you probationary licence have 1/2 the number of points that you have on a full licence,
0% alcohol in the blood stream at all times,
no curfew,
allowed to carry passengers.
less restrictive but still existing power-to-weight ratio laws

Oh for f**k sake, not another one of these poles. Its sad that every male under 25 is classed as a boyracer, it may appear as if it is the majority but it certainly aint everyone. I would call myself a sensible driver, I have NO driving convictions and I'm only 19 with a full licence! I hate this stereotyping bullshit all thanks to the government and the public

I think the media is milking most of this, they need something to get people to watch and listen and this an easy one.

We've been over the 'boyracer' issue so many times. Seems like no one in parliament can come up with anything that will solve the problem, they just come up with more laws to make money from it. This is what annoys me most.

A mate got ticketed for a noisey exhaust, $150 fine. There was already a law in place that if the exhaust didn't meet the wof reg's the car would get green stickered. However now if it is legal but the officer is having a bad day he can still give you a fine!

Do all of the above, well most. Increase the driving age and give all new drivers limited power cars - eg 1300cc Mirage for a first car and make them have insurance. And no mods.

That might limit the ricey cars too.
