I wouldn't say Supras are more common than Skylines though... 8O

Supras vs. GT-Rs (as the topic says) Hard call really. I'd say I see more Supras.

Quite the close poll this one innit?

GT-R's arent that common around, but then again neither are RZ Supras. Apples with apples ;)
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time

You are quite right there......................shouldn't this be comparing
GT-R's with RZ supra's, because it is a bit unfair comparing to supra's in general.

Supras and Skylines
RZ's and GT-R's

Supra's are a lot quicker than a lot of people think, i myself beaten a couple of skylines racing (i do not condone illegal street racing) Funny thing is, one driver came back and verbally abused me for beating him - baaahhh skyline drivers

I think alot of people automatically think a skyline is a faster car just because skylines are publicised more than the supra as being this, but supra's respond to mod's just as well as a skyline. An advantage of a supra though - it's a toyota, so it's got a tough engine that just keeps going and going and going

So..........don't count out the supra just yet :D

As much as I love the Skyline, I'd have to say Supra  .

id say skyline, only reason really is just personal preference.

I know someone was goin on ages ago bout being able to tell the R34s apart, quick look at the back from a distance at the lights which are on either side of the No. plate. If they are both white, its a GT25T, if ones Red and ones White, its a GTR,

seems to be an easy way to spot, rather than lookin for the logo, and sum people just get hold of the gtr logo and stick it on their skyline, that is quite depressing.

The front grill is the main thing I look out for :D
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

hmmm. the first 12 sec 1/14 miles posted were barely believable... now youre saying the gtr will do a flat 14 ?? turn it up... i guess theres lots of bullshit "facts " out there, on the net and even sometimes published in 2nd rate magazines.

Your doin the same thing your genralising about skyline drivers . Anyway i wouldnt brag to much about your N/A one- It made a whole lot less power than my lightly modded 2litre did with a heap of naws up it-

Your GTS-t? That made what, 180rwkw didnt it when you had it? I think Paula's Supra made 170+rwkw with nitrous. Not really a whole heap more.

Yeah made 179rwkw, but should've been up around 220 rwkw, but was running far too rich that day so had to pull it off the dyno. 8O

I wasn't bragging, i was just saying that there are quick supra's out there. There's always gunna be a debate and no one will win, so i'm not even gunna try. :D

Who ever said people think the Skyline is a faster car? I think this poll is more about personal choice rather than performance. I would pick a GT-R over a Supra, but I know damn well than with equivalent mods than a Supra *RZ* will out accelerate a GT-R, not to mention has better low down torque etc. I just prefer the way GT-Rs do things and how they have a bit of character and pedigree to them that Supras don't. Supras have incredible engine and drivetrain, and nobody has said anything otherwise - aside from maybe some random who thinks GTOs are in the same league or better.

You didn't specify what kind of Skylines you beat, but seeing as your car + NOS making 179rwkw puts it in similar power/weight as a typical R33 GTS25t with exhaust and filter, otherwise stock... so it wouldn't surprise me if you could beat an R32 GTS-t using NOS unless it was running a bigger turbo and/or more boost. Though without NOS its probably best to keep well away from the turbo models, less power and more weight just isn't good for chances

Anyway, the main thing that you got my attention with your post - is the bit in bold. Its reallllly unfortunate that people seem to find it necessary to bring into these conversations, its pointless. It starts by one random person (who speak for THEMSELF, not all who drive that kind of car) who does something retarded. I had HEAPS of that from Skyline (and ironically, possibly even more so from Toyota owners) who my old Honda shortly after making them look a little silly.

The thing that doesn't help that, is the way to take that - is THAT PERSON is a $&#$%, and leaving it at that. Instead, people seem to take it on board - and say things like "baaahhh skyline drivers  " and treat a good amount of people with that kind of car with that prejudice. Now I drive a Honda, and drive a Skyline, and my last car was a Toyota - what does that make me??

I think its in my interest to spontaneously combust because if I was offered, I'd happily own an STi WRX, an EVO, a Silvia, a Skyline, an RX7, a Supra, a GTO, an Integra, a HSV Clubsport, a Falcon XR8, and any of heaps of other fantastic types of performance car, and as the owner and enthusiast of a different kind of car - I should take it apon myself to consider myself a munter.

since when were the skylines made for the quarter anyway?

if you did it over a much longer course, youll notice the difference.

point is, you sit next to one on the motorway, in the same gear and both gun it.

i think i know whos gonna win :).

gto weigh's around 1700+ dosnt it?

supra with 1500, whats a gtr? must be around there also, 13-15ish.

um, that must be a bloody powerful gto.

and if they truely are supercars..... WHY ARE THERE SO MANY AROUND :s

I'll stick in my 2 cents worth.
Any car is only a car and it's the biggest money waster you can get. A performance car is an even bigger waste of money but they're good fun.

Sure a GTR is a great car but very much over rated for what it is. The supra is a great car too but they're both greatly overpriced.

It's all about the best bang for the $$$

Dragracing isn't just about weight either, aerodynamics play a big part.

I took my GTO to the Masterton Drags, Dec, ran a 12.8 on it's very first run down the strip, that with less than $15K IN TOTAL invested in it. Now who's going to show me another car that will do that besides a V8.
Certainly not a GTR or a Supra. Lith, I'll give you a race next meeting??

Steve

edit

Given the choice of the two I'd probably go the Supra. Why?, well Toyota reliability and the fact that you don't get 4 identical looking Supras lining up at the Masterton Drags. There's no denying though that Dave's GTR PWR is an awesome car, my missus is hanging out for a ride in it sometime.

Also my mate's got one of the older ones, 86, it's good for towing broken GTOs.

edit again

Those track times were done with the GTO MR version, it's lighter because it doesn't have the 4WS, active aero, active suspension etc., about 1600Kgs or a bit more.

PS some of you guys are morons.

AL's MR2 ? from what I understand, its run a 12.8 with a whole lot less then 15 g invested ! (correct me if Im wrong).

I also know a couple people with gtir's that have run mid 12's for under 15g..

anyway... what ever happened to this being about supra vs gtr ?

The GTO boys seem to be a little confused... I think most people are talking about GTRs and Supras.

MAGN1T - what the hell has me and you racing got do with anything? I don't have a GTR and you don't have a Supra :D
