Personally for me its Ride The Lightning.

They got over the thrash metal stage pretty quick from the first album (doesnt make kill em all any less good tho!!) and put a bit more ompf into their songs, fave song of all time off that album is creeping death (which owns live...."diieeeee byyy my hands, i creep across the land, killing first born mannnnnn MOTHER $&#$% DIEEEEEEE")

Also worthy of mention off that album is Fade To Black and Call of Ktulu, their Instrumental songs own.

....And Justice For All, just cause thats whats in my car at the moment

other albums are just as good in that period with songs like: battery, fade to black, welcome home (sanitarium).

I do like the later albums like load but i prefer the pre-black album ones.

I love Justice, the production was pretty dry but it still sounds great, best metallica album for cars with subs.

They all good tho, the rawness of kill em all, to the hyper slick black album. Then the later records attempt to recapture some rawness and feeling.

simply METALLICA ROCK!!!

p.s. I'm still waiting for a chicken emoticon.

This is probably one of the hardest choices I've ever made but I'm going to go with 'Master of Puppets'

The production of that album was absolutely supurb and they've got some of the all time best songs on that one aswell.

Pitty bout the bus accident during that tour with Ozzy Ozbourne though....Cliff Burton was the MAN!!!!!

(I think it was that tour.....correct me if I'm wrong)

Then I presume you're my company as part of the two people who voted for it. :-)

It's all about Ride, closely followed by Justice (despite the badly overbassed tracks, warbling lines and dodgy mastering). You just can't beat the epic solos on Justice... amazing. The energy of Ride is overpowering, I love it. *smile*

Apparently, the rumour is the reason theres $&#$% all bass in the ...And Justice For All album is that they played a trick on jason newstead and dubbed the bass out of it, because they held a bit of resentment against him as being the "new guy" for replacing the legendary Cliff Burton.

I recon that's crap about cutting the bass.

Anyway, I still play Nothing Else Matters and The Unforigiven on my gat today, and I haven't listened to any Metallica for about 6 years!

THE BLACK ALBUM WILL LIVE FOREVER

Justice is the most brutal true kult metal album although Kill 'Em All is a very close 2nd for me.

Ride the Lightning.

Call of Ktulu (Not Cthulu, for copyright reasons) just does it for me like no other.

According to Jason (in sum interview with sum guitar mag)
Because he was the new guy, because he didn't put anything creatively into the project.... his stuff wasn't mixed very high at all (as we all know its barely there) He said sumthing about feeling real gutted, I think I've also read sumthing similar from an interview with the whole band.

been a metallica fan since my westie form one days back in '91 when i heard ride the lightning...so yer..yeh its a toss up between puppets, lightning and justice for me, but we'll go with master of puppets :D used to sit there for hours playing along to orion on my geetar, mind you most of the other songs of the other albums got the same treatment.

i do really like the black album aswell, load and reload a few moments, st anger is just uninspiring rubbish...and the s&m album/dvd i think is quite the excellent...

kill em all had a great wicked tunes, noteably - the four horsemen :D

anyone goto their `98 concert at the supertop? how $&#$% wicked was that! mmM!
