Which would be a better clubrace car

Postby crispy'86 » Tue May 10, 2005 11:46 pm

Some of you know i've got an fxgt 86 club car with homologated roll cage and authority card etc in it, i bought with damaged front, i'll be getting a quote from some p/beaters soon and if the price is too high i'm not going to put new cage into other fxgt donor, it's a bit rusty. So i may go to an ae92 trueno or levin. What advantages/disadvantages are there for the two different models.?? Any people running ae92's?? some info people please :D

all the AE92 Levin/Trueno's seemed to look and behave a bit ....bulky?, whereas the FXGT seems to be more nimble.
go for the FX i reckon, there are way more panels etc available for when the enevitable happens (you and me both know how hard it can be to get Trueno/Levin bits).
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

f#@k you i won't do what ya tell me

both have their ups and downs but the main good reason for the ae92 levin or trueno is that u can get a good wing on the boot and get good downforce at the back , this is my problem with my ae92 fxgt race car as i have to explore other options to try and gain downforce at the rear . :D

I don't have 'track' suspension in my AE82 but it does handle terribly on the track. Couldn't say what its like with suitable suspension, but it's crap without.
If you want to do track in an N/A 1600 I would recommend a vtec though.

Yea wouldn't mind a stripped out civ a600 tec for track.

I know they used to race ae92's in the same class as civics and mirage hatches in Japan with good results. I think the ae92 I had seemed to handle better then a stock fx of the same year but the do feel a bit heavier.

check the top of the page, i've already bought the fxgt and the aw11 mr2's are way too rusty and a bit small for me.

Plus the fxgt's are getting a little hard to find which haven't been reppaired in some way in the front. The donor car i have is a bit dodgy i think, a good one de-reg or minus engine and tidy is a little out of my price region i'd say.

yeah i think i is going to be an idea. getting the fx stripped so panelbeaters can have good look and see if it's worth doing front cut, i'll be doing all the hard work myself

Dude. Why dont you sell your other 9 project cars and use the money to get the FX going + buy all the parts that people are selling to you.

are you sure? in my experience coupe versions tend to be lighter than hatch versions for some reason? maybe the hatches have extra rear end smash protection?

Can anyone confirm weights? I think for memory the 82's are just over 1000kg's???

i weighed my ae82 with a full tank of gas, toolbox, ae101 factory rims, and the rest of it was as it rolled off the production line.... 1020kg

If Warwick can fit in one, then so can you! :P
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Well you'd have to work out price of new cage, homologation etc and purchase price over the price of fixing what you've got, both cars are similar in power, weight and to a degree handeling.
At the end of the day the cost of fun is still rulled by your wallet - you could have no money and not be having fun cos your car isn't ready - or you could have no money cos your pouring it into gas, tyres and other stuff like entry fees etc and be having heaps of fun

Well i can't say i have that many cars, now anyway. Most are for parets to go into the fxgt and get rid of shells.

The fxgt is purely a club level car so speed events etc will be the main aim. Going to strip front off it to get panelbeater to check out and see which will be better. So watch this space.......................progress being made

I'd feel a bit too uncomfortable with such a small car!!!!

youd get lost in one, i fit fine!

the fxgt in ae82 and ae92 form had an awesome career as a track car...
and so did the levin/trueno in japan....

the longer wheel base of the levin/treuno woul dbe handy, and the weight difference wont be much, and as stated above, may go the other way...
id say go with what you find for the best price.... you can make the levin/trueno go just as well as the fxgt
