is the AE86 an outdated rustbucket that is pointless in todays world
or is an AE86 a legendary drift/rally machine that is cooler than school with its cult classic status

i like em , they are cool cars and have their own place in history..always appreciate it when i see a tidy one.
but currently they are overpriced for what they are , fueled by the drift fad people seem to think they are worth a lot more than than they really are.part of the original reason they were so good is they were a cheap option , which doesnt really cut it now , as there are cheaper more modern equivalents available

Its a underpowered, perfect handling, light weight, rust prone, drift machine, to sum it up nicely

Yeah I like them, pity about the price that they're getting to be. But what do you expect with a good car they're gunna eventually get worth more as time moves forward.
In saying that we got ours for $2500 like 8 years ago so I dont have any problems with buying one. Dad bought it cause he loves them and has had several ever since he co-drove in a rally levin.
The ae86 isn't just a cult drift car its a car that people fall in love with and don't want to let go. Its not the drift scene that makes them worth so much its the fact that people want to keep them unless they get a really good offer for their pride and joy.

AE86's are cool but overpriced for what they are. For the kind of money people want for them I'd rather buy an MR2 or Silvia.

I'll decide once I drive one (If I ever do).
I think they're ugly...
But the lightweight RWD layout sounds very addictive

if it wasn't for the drift scene, they would merely be a cult car due to their rally/circuit pedigree. so instead of $5k for a good one they are now megabucks.
apart from the 4ag and their driveability, they are just another car, rather have a minter TE71 notchy anyday

i fully agree, they are overpriced
still cool though heh heh
yeah TE71 notchy look the biz, cheap and really not far from an 86 haha, if i didn't have mine i'd have a te71
thinking about if i knew what a te71 was back in the day when i got my 85, i would have bought one for sure

if had said TE71hatch, every one would have claimed a bias, as they are far cooler than it's rounder brother.

Need a 'great car, but not the be all and end all' option.
sits way above Shite but not as high as Legendary

Also true.

Damn straight! I'm quite partial to TE71's, having owned a couple. There will always be a space for one in my garage! Much more tasteful than an AE86..

havin driven both gtst and ae86 ( wel close enough) i would have to say.. i still prefer ae86. if they were same price even, i prefer ae86. skyline just seemed.. boring, almost too easy to drive and stuf.
i admit these cars are not "legendary" but were definitly a benchmark car for their time and have created a huge following.
the cult car status they have today speaks for itself. its there for a reason.

Well I own one so of course I'm going to be biased but as I've said before, an AE86 has way more style than a skyline. I don't know why RS13 is trying to compare the two though, there's nearly a decade difference in technology between them. I'd have an ae86 over a skyline from the same era in every respect
Power is easy to get more of, which is the only thing a gtst has up on the ae86.

Pffft, just coz aw11's aren't worth half what ae86's are

yes but a rust free one is rarer
besides a mint s/c mr2 ant far behind a ae-86 youll be lucky to get a mint aw11 s/c for under 5-6 grand thses days
that turbo one on trade me also sold for moonbeams
give us 10 more years and i recon the ae-86 will be just a boys hack and the aw will be the difinitive toyota sports car
after all they still make the mr2
and the aw10 was what started there obsession with MR
in fact i think the aw was there first 4age powered car ??? back in 1983-4

Never been a fan of the 80s corolla range.
Much prefer the celica's and GTO's of the mid 70s
