How often do you clean your car?

Postby method » Mon Nov 07, 2005 1:16 am

Just wondering how often you clean your car. And with what.

And what products you use and how often you wax it.

I usually just use water and a sponge then dry my car with a chamose (sp?) to stop the water drying on it and leaving dirt behind every week or two.

And every 3 or so months i use soapy water to clean it real well then wax it with turtlewax platnum.

Im just not sure if i should use a soap or something to clean the car every week or two rather than just water, it gets all the road dust etc off though. Im worried that the soap will cause the wax to deteriorate faster??

I just want a shiny car, but dont we all.. dont we all.
Any tips from you pros?

Cheers

well lets see...

I never clean my corolla once.

My first silvia was cleaned three times in my time of ownership but only due to my friends telling me it was a dirty bitch ( at this stage I lived in the countryside and needed to travel about 5km along dirt road to get to work, or anywhere for that matter so I wasnt going to wash it everyday )

My Soarer was cleaned twice, and that was a few days after I got it, and the day I decided to start selling it.

My Second silvia was never cleaned in my length of ownership, I was just lucky it rained the day I sold it, so the dirt sort of washed off.

Its not that I like my car dirty nor can I not be bothered cleaning it.
I really dont know.

After 5 years my car is just a hack, so whereas I used to wash it every couple of weeks nowadays I'm lucky to wash it every couple of months. Rally car is usually done after every event so that it doesn't drop sh*t all over the garage floor :)
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976

When my 30's on the road, I clean it every time its dirty, this could be within a couple of days. But its not a daily driver so its not too bad. I use Meguiars Gold Class, an Unfathomably large sponge I picked up from somewhere, then chamois it. I cut and polish it about ever 3 - 6 months.

My EE100, gets washed every 6 months or so, but its white so it doesnt show dirt too much.

I quite like washing cars, and it stops em from rusting etc....

Yeah when I first get a car I tend to wash it like every week. Now I wash it about every 2 to 3 months.. almost looks like a new car again after all the caked on mud has been washed off.

My GT-Four got a wash every couple of weeks and awax every six months or so. Meguires stuff for me... cheap through work :D

But the Levin is another story, the paint is so crap I washed it once after I got it but not since then. I usually end up removing some paint cos its so flakey! Nice to have a car that you don't give a crap about someone opening their door into it... as they tend to do up here very often.

washworld it yourself, easy as and way cheaper than $20...unless you scrub like a useless bitch and take ya time which is why you should never let girls wash your car there :P....so in that case...maybe you should get a guy to do it haha
