Twin Turbo 2.5 Soarer vs vr4 Legnum

Postby UZZ30 » Sun Dec 18, 2005 2:12 am

Just a really basic poll which is the faster and better Stock standard car around a random track (say pukekohe) and on the 1/4 mile? TT soarer or vr4 legnum. (both are Twin Turbo and 2.5L 6 cylinders and similar weight.)

Id go for TT soarer for both... Its got a superb 1jz-gte motor dont think mitsis have an engine as fancy as those :P

This guy i know thinks Legnums are alot better so... theres the base for this poll...

Theres obviously alot of variables etc.. just want some general opinions

Those VR4s can do high 13s even if it was auto with a filter/exhaust. Don't really see a Soarer being able to do that on the goat track. I'm pretty sure a guy here cut 13.8 with just a pod on his TT Legnum auto.

those 2.5's in the legnums are pretty decent , and have the advantage of being available in manual. either way neither of them are earth shattering standard. i love the soarers ,they are a better platform to modify, but id probly have to take the mitsi if i was to keep it standard.

The TT's were available in Manual as well.....although rather rare

My money would be on the VR4 down the 1/4, on the track.....hard call

Legnums to me dont have the quality, style or 'wow' factor and original looks as the soarer has.... their just 'another' typical car with a powerfull engine. :P

Can a TT VR4 with just pod really do 13's?

Ive read TT soarers can do low 14's with a few mods such as intake exhaust. Not sure about legnums but id say they would perform almost the same

could Al be the next Muddly Talker?

mate has a VR4 wagon, its manual, was auto, and i was actually quite impressed with how it went. id say a soarer would be hard pusehed to beat one in stock trim.

how ever the soarer would win all the time. because its a toyota and the legnum a mitsi.... and would break

My mate reckons it'd never do 13's because he thinks all wagons suck except for Subarus'. Dickhead.

Well said. lol :P

If you look on trade me theres many Mitsis with reconditioned gearboxes or engines at 100,000kms-150,000kms. Just shows how eazily they break!!

I dont see many Toyotas with reasonably low kms with reconditioned gearboxes, lol

Yeah reliability Toyota > Mitsi anyday. However I wouldnt question the strength of the boxes or motors, they are usually pretty tough. Its everything else that falls apart or breaks.

The mitsi would probably get off the line quicker due to 4wd, but neither car to especially exciting in stock form - jz has more potential, but it all comes down to what mods are done to each as to how good/quick a car they turn out to be.

Honestly though, legnum is a family stationwagon, soarer is a heavy 2 door grand tourer, 4wd vs Rwd, two completely different vehicles for different types of owner.
I would take the soarer anyday because I like them, but it would be hopeless if I needed a wagon.

Im wary of the mitsi V6 having done plenty of work on them, I wouldn't say its a weak drivetrain at all, but jz would easily be stronger. Having destroyed a TT soarer trans, I don't have anything nice to say about them tho either- manual is the only way to go in either case.

*cough... I think he was talking about legnum VR-4's not Sedan's... cough* :P

I've got three mates with Legnums... 1 x VR-4, 2 x ST-R's

..... all had to rebuild or replace gearboxes before 120,000km's! :(
..... all have had turbo problems! :(
..... all have had overheating problems! :(

......reliabilty??? I think not! :?

I have two mates with Soarer's... both TT but one auto and one manual....

.... never had a problem with transmissions or any other part! :D ( except for wearing out the rear tyres! :P )

My 5c. 8)

I would go for the Soarer.... I would rather finish the race than have to fix my car half way through. :D
