But I'm a bit of an all-rounder, i'll listen to rock, hip hop and d&b, etc

I think you'll find Simple Plan and 48 May aren't even "rock". They are actually "pop-punk".

as far as electronica music goes, d&b is the bestest.

pop-punk sucks, but punk-pop rules :D

Now isn't it called "acid house' and has just been shortened to “house”?
I understand that House was the hardcore party stuff and techno was a little lighter, more along the lines of ‘come down’ music and was created by pure technology.
However over time techno has become more extreme and accepted on a par with House. It’s really subjective to be honest. Gotta love the electronic music revolution.
I thank Depeche Mode (if you don't know who they are google it!) and the like for their efforts and experiments with the electronic age …

Maybe the question that should be asked is … what cotenant is the home to the “dance music’ phenomenon

love this ...
The styles (Techno, Trance, Ambient, Goa, Jungle, Hip Hop, Trip Hop, Hardcore, House, Garage, Gabba, Breakbeat) are only edges in a Kaleidoscopic sound space. Composer/producers are legion and the music is a rapidly changing sonic world driven by a recognition of its past, its present and a constant need for an identity strategy through sound. It is bound by certain constraints (what music isn't?) but it continually pushes at those until some kind of infusion process transforms everything. There are heated debates among the cognoscenti regarding the value of each style and the practitioners responsible for it. The culture eschews Rock/Pop industry hype, having recognised that its success is not due to the Rock industry's patronage. Nevertheless, it supplants one hype with another, often a gnarly stylization of contemporary life.

A little more diversity is required for me to answer this.

I like Vanilla house, but not progressive.

Just like Trance, I like Uplifting Trance and Hard Trance, but not Prog Trance or Psy Trance.

And I've never really been a fan of Breaks. And Hard House gets on my nerves.

Its funny ay. How people are so quick to go "oh I hate that techno shit" (talking about any kind of music) but fail to realise the different genres actually have very different sounds. I could go on about this shit for ages but I wont. Talking about music is like talking about God. Gota make sure its with open minded people.

yeh its the same as "all that music sounds the same". but really that goes for anything, if youre not into death metal - it all sounds like ROARORAOROARO. if you're not into cars, they probably all look the same. if youre not asian, ya probably think all asians look the same.

and whats FTW? used to know it as "free the weed" from highschool days.
