Undercover or bling

Postby method » Sat Jan 07, 2006 12:44 pm

Just wondering what you guys think, for a non turbo car that has had a engine swap and the power quadrupled.

A slim frontmount cut into the lower bumper, not inanely obvious but there. And ditch the aircon.

OR keep the aircon and mount a water to air unit you cant see at all.

I personally say the water to air, $&#$% not having aircon, girls dont like being hot and sweaty.. or do they  . And the car will look way more undercover and the intercooler will be much more efficient especilly at low speeds and you wont get heatsoak and the likes of that.

Air to airs dont really reach maximum efficency till around 80kph which is pretty quick hence cars like rally cars having 40L + resevious of water for the water sprayers. 40L=40kg, a lot of weight in motorsports so it obviously is a big problem at low speeds.

And i personally dont like the look of cut out front mounts, especially the excessivly large ones. The whole bling culture has got out of hand. Looks over functionalitty  Maybe im just a purist. Truck sized front mounts on small turbo cars, wastegates on standard turbo cars etc, just for noise and looks. Allthough the sound of a wastegate is sexy, it has to be backed up by the car pulling away, not droppping behind...quickly

its actually possible to discretly locate a front mount. you wouldnt even know mine had an intercooler unless you were really looking for it.
w-a is a lot more involved and its still arguable that they are as benficial as youd like to think.
a-a works for me for simplicity and they are proven time and time again

You could always look at it that they girls may not like getting all hot and sweaty in the car but it is however beneficial to you

Up to you what you do but you can always make a front mount very discreet so others don't notice it.

V-mount FTW!

Front mounts look good if the bumper isn't cut up to peices to fit it  (Sure you have to so it fits/gets air, but looks gay)

V mount is to much effort on a street car....

with the kits that are avilable for fmic's its just not worth going to the trouble of a v mount.

on that note, if anyone needs a vr4 cooler, with end's mounted for a v mount on a ca18, giz a yell :D.... haha.

what's wrong with a front mount painted black, or not jammed out all visible like in the front bumper? Just because you have a front mount, doesn't mean it has to be visible to get airflow...

Air to Air

Too much effort to sort Water to Air and carries extra weight..
As said above Air to Air is only as discrete as you want it to be..
