looking around the net Ive found a multitude of places that people have installed their RSMs, including some unhelpful places such as in front of passenger (possibly they always cruising with homies to give them feedback on output?) or beside an off centre handbrake, eg completly outa view.

Well, ive narrowed my choices down to 6, where do you reckon you would place it on this dash? (not my car, but close enough!) where should i put this?:




position number 1 = right above centre console, easy to install (flatish surface), but outa normal vision?
position number 2 = below headunit, replacing din spacer, again, easy to install, but outa normal vision.
position 3 = ...little lower... mount on door or thereabouts, same as below headunit, outa normal vision and proly hardish to install if you want flap to still work
position 4 = steering column, partially blocks tacho/speedo (though it provides that info anyway), easy to install, easier to see.
position 5 = MONSTER TACHO AU place, more or less in vision, installing it so it sits level could be difficult though
position 6 = bling factor 11ty billion, more or less in vision, installing it to sit level could be difficult, stand has apexi on the back so people could see that shit in the rear view mirror

Yea i was thinking of making a plug right up beside the unit for its wires,so that it would be removable to an extent. Just trying to figure out if i can get it on the stand but take it easily. By doing that I could put it somewhere more obvious, but then take with me when parking places i dont trust, also just got an alarm installed after being broken into, some hopefully 'karma' makes sure i dont get broken into again

rsm in 4, monster tach @ 5, a type s cupholder at 6, a fluff toy @ 1, a neon tube @ 2 and some tinnys in 3, then all you need to do is get some grillz and youll be PiMpEd OuT lmao

Can I just ask why people get these when they ahve working rev and speedo?
I see it has other features, but all of which would have to be guestimates at best(unless it has GPS or something for 400m etc?)

It removes speed cut.
With the G-sensor it measures G-Force/Quartermile/Power Output etc.

After reading up on it,reading reviews and the such most people find tha with the g sensor and correct calibration, the results are suprisingly accurate. On some poolude forum that had an install on it, his dyno run was something like 178.3HP, and the RSM returned 177.5. Quite alot of other reviews I have read talked about similar results. Also the 400m times have been quite accurate, as SOMEHOW the g sensor is used to cancel out the distance that the car thinks its travelled when its wheel spinning. With the normal RSM you could wheelspin for 400m worth of tyre rotation and it would give you that time, but not so with the g sensor. So while they are all guesstimates, they are predy darn accurate.

Albeit it was a toss up between this and a new gfx card for my computer oh god, dont judge me.

technically having a G sensor there is no need the input from speed sensor, as distance/speed can be derivated from acceleration and time... The biggest inacuracy with G sensors is the estimation of the total weight of the car...

you input the weight of the car into its settings,
Install it in your Visor, Removing your mirror, you can pull ya visor down have good veiw ( spech in night ) and then also hidden from theives

sun visor.... interesting... mine doesnt have a mirror to start with, so should be reasonably easy. So wires would be run into the roof and down the pillar i presume? Is dealing with the fabric easy enough?

sun visors r a biatch to re-trim by yourself but i was qaoted to get 2 re-trimmed for $120,so you could mount it etc etc and then get a upholesterer to re-trim it for you

mmmmm, dunno if i want to spend anymore money on it really, already costed me around 350 for the stuff. I think im starting to sway towards 4, but my brother also drives the car and being a pansy hell prolly have a problem with it being there, so still open minded about it all.

Just stick it at number 4.

Mate of mine has a rallycar with the RSM being his sole tacho/speedo, seems just fine to use and gets WOFs.

The idea of it is for a readout of your RPM and speed - therefore, no point mounting it elsewhere just to have a readout of what you're already being told!

Unless you're only using it for the 1/4 mile timer, in which case give it the arse and spend the $$ on going to the track 7 times

Yea Ill be using it for the purpose of tacho/speed/gs/400m/0-100kmh/power output. prety much all the features. Only problem if i relied on it solely for speed/tacho is when its sunny alota the reviews said it was quite hard to see. not being able to see revs is fine, but speed could prove to be a problem, i dont like using the 'stay with the other traffic' speedo

mmmm.....interesting, that would be good cos it would be in sight, and probably not that hard to mount on the windscreen. Had a look in DSE the other day, couldnt find any smallish plug for about 9 wires, anyone reccomend a place to go? Guna go check out jaycar sometime soon, they hopefully got something

I have mine a position 1, in front of the clock (which doesn't work). Easy to read, not that I need to look at it very often. A very handy feature is the speedo recalibration, I have slightly oversize rear tyres so the RSM is corrected, at 175 on the dash I am actually doing 189 kph => Confirmed at MR2 trackday the other day, with gps as well
The RSM came with the car, I wouldn't buy one otherwise but its pretty funky!
