Hey,

Im in the middle of finding the right engine for my ae85 project.

I am unsure about the pros and cons about going EFI or going with the easier and less pissing around Carbed 4age option.

I want to find out on:

fuel efficiency, reliability etc

So tell me what you think, and any experiences you may have!

well what is it for?

carbs can make the same hp as efi.

BUT
efi has better drivability
better consistancy
self adjusting

i would make the decison based on use

The engine will be going into my ae85 and will be used on the street as a daily driver! So fuel consumption is kinda important. I don't want anything that will be unreliable.

I'm guessing putting in the extra work and going for EFI will be worth it in the long run. A carbed 4age will probable be a cheaper/easy option though (if the engine already has them set up)

efi is cheaper than carbs to set up, always having to tune your carbs would be a bitch aswell for a daily driver

At Full Throttle, good well set up carbs are as good as EFI.

All other times, EFI makes more power and uses less fuel.

ive got an injected 4age in my ke35 which i use as my daily driver.
nothing beats going out to the car on a cold morning, turning the key and it starts first go.

whereas my mate who has a carbied 12a (different engine, but same principals still apply) has to wait about 2 minutes for her car to warm up anytime she wants to go anywhere, and use alot more gas in the process.

if its a daily driver, definitely go EFI.

My RX7's so $&#$% annoying... Took it for a drive one day around Collins Rd, and that area.. Had to do a U, and it just kept stalling no matter how much revs I gave.. and when it finally goes, it stalls at anything under 3,000 rpm

Thank god its not my daily

12a carb btw

fcuk carbs man

i hate carbs

go the efi

and seriously, its just as easy and cheap to set up efi compared to carbs

unless you get crap low quality carbs, which will make it go slower and use more gas

haha richie you were waiting for me to read that...
your experience with carbs is a 3a so i dont blame you for hateing em :P

Carbs rock, definatly less fuel efficient, but sound so cool

yeah carbs are o.k, if its gonna be cheap and easy to do, but in the case of a 4age, its not gonna be cheap or easy

i can forgive carbs on your honda man, infact i like that idea

yeah agreed, if the car is efi in the first place tis probably better in the long run to keep it that way, my honda had carbs originally and the IM was easy to source, plus mine are CV carbs which are nearly as good as EFI anyway.

Is it a PP or something?

I think the engine he is looking at already has twin dellorto side drafts on it so set up cost would not be an issue.

Using full throttle from idle doesn't give optimal power output throughout the rev range though. Its something I noticed while driving and questioned someone knowledgable about and they confirmed what I believed.

Yes,

but at low speed and not at full throttle,
EFI is better. Which was my point.

But I digress that I agree.

i dont even know why you would consider carbing a 4age, and how it would be cheaper when they are efi standard.. ........
