celica or prelude

Trying to work out what to buy to replace the fxgt.
Just wanting something abit less of a toy car
If i keep the fxgt much longer ill be putting a cage in and getting it ready to do some motokahana work.

so i have been thinking abotu a 93 shape honda prelude with the 2.2l vtec motor in it.

I suspect the build quaility wont be the same as a toyota, and its probably built like a tin can. but they do seem like very good value.

my other option im thinking is an st182 celica. would have to be black or red im thinking and would look for a manual if possible..

the preludes seem hard to find in manual, but would settle for an auto, since its just being used to get to work and back in.

any opinions would be great.

i hate the shape of those pooludes! quite small too, altho i wouldnt say a celica would be any better in that department

Nah man, that's the worst shape prelude ever! Definitely a toyota if that's your options...

Honda interchangability is really bad when it comes to parts. There seems to be so many slight variations.

if it were manual, id say the prelude, youd have a hell of a lot more fun.. havent driven an st183 so cant comment on those

Agree, I've test driven a few preludes (all manual), and they are actually alot of fun. Bit of a boat though.

Are you a hairdresser or spend a lot of time with your large body building friend "bear"? If so buy the prelude...

Both cars are pretty homo..

But if I had to pick id go for the poolude, those h22a's are pretty $&#$% awsome, pwn 3sge's 6 ways from sunday.

Sure they are not the flashest looking car, but they go hard, and handle alright with some new springs in them. Celica's are on par with Camerys for bordem points. Completly meh.

You might find that prelude has next to f**k all room in the cabin. especially if you're taller than 6ft. That aside they do go quite well.

I wouldnt have either to be honest. Corolla you currently posess is much better option.

thanks for that, yeah i am still enjoying the corolla. but its too much of a toy for what i use it for.

I have the 500hp supra in the garage that im building up, so im just wanting a nice comfortable car for getting to work in.
My only real reqiurements is a good basis for a good sounding stereo (celica system 10 would be good)

I really dont want to spend much more on top of what i get for the fxgt, so im thinking of the $3k maybe $3.5k mark

i was also thinking about an sr20de primera but they are abit too square for my liking.

I have asked to have a look at a couple of preludes so will take one for a drive.

cheers for the opinions guys

Mera's are awsome too. Specially if you can get a manual one. Awsome handling cars from factory..

On the stereo note, some of the preluds come with a 40,000 speaker sounds system as standard (sub in the back, loads of speakers etc).

true

yeah i might take a primera for a drive as well, sr20de is sposed to be a good motor

if i keep the fxgt ill want to build a 7age for it and put a cage in it and stuff and that takes money away from my other money pit.

How much longer have you got till you have the supra on the road, legal and reliable?

If it was me, I would wait till that point in time to change your 'daily'. Why?

- Because you know what you have with this corolla, you know what state its in, what it needs to be/stay road legal. This is important because you are changing to another car which is a virtual unknown to you (and a different manufacturer to boot). You might find some problems with it, but others may escape you, and end up costing you bigger $$ in the long run (i.e. more than the car is worth)

- Parts are cheap for it - Potentially with changing it to one of another manufacturer, you may not have the hookup for parts if anything breaks down on the car.

Both of those can take away money from the supra project, thus making the project more drawn out and depressing.

Im not saying any of the above will happen, but its a risk you take. I guess it depends on how important completing supra project is to you, and within what timeframe. I know i'd be wanting it asaip. (as soon as is practical)

Close mate of mine has the Primera with the SR20DE... that thing is a $&#$% ROCKET!! Its Manual and has 2 Radar Detectors lol... 2 Pioneer 15" Subs and 2 1ch Amps with a Pioneer HU

Anotha close mate has a Poolude... The VTEC Bark in his is soo rediculous that it sets off Car Alarms thru town... id recommend that for being dam fun, he also has it chipped and a Nitrous system and a Veilside kit and as low as you can go springs, its off the clock in no time

And Celica.......... ummm cake anyone??

why dont u buy a AE101 corolla sedan or somthing instead of a sillycar or poolude, id have to agree that both are pretty homo, the honda mostly. they dont make a good case for a daily drive, no space, look pseudo sporty, not really reliable and performance engines. what if you want to pick some mates up and go on a longish trip. i know id refuse to ride in the back of either

oh just read the primera comment, do not buy one, unless u enjoy fixing it. I work on enough of them at work to tell you there not that flash
