are you going to drift it? i picked ae85 but if you're going to drift it, it would be awesome seeing a kp60 out there with the cefs/laurels/etc :lol:

No. just adjust driving style to suit the car, then the car to suit the purpose, vice versa whatever.

the car isn't 'for' anything. It will be street driven, taken to track days, and drift days, and probably drag days. But will not just be focused on one area.

froma cost point of view, the starlet is cheaper

I disagree.

I think the ae85 option will work out cheaper.
** Edit - actually looking at my costings they're basically the same. The cost of the ae85 shells/panels are offset by the extra fab work for the kp60 **

I mean the shell won't be obviously, a ae85 shell is going to cost at least a grand, where as starlet shells are basically free.

Theres a lot more fab work with the starlet, and theres more info out there to fit brakes/suspension to a ae85.

I like the starlet option, but I know the ae85 will be the easier/more sensible option.

ae85/86 parts are harder to find and cost more than kp60.

id say theres the same amount of info between the two.

Yup you're right there. The extra kp fab work is a one off. If I need another shell / panel they're about one tenth the price of ae85 panels.

I know its not a question someone can answer for me, I'm not going to base my decision on a internet forum poll, I'm interested to see/hear what others think/would do.

i think the 85 would be far more useable on the street than a high horsepower starlet.

things like traction and so forth, still going to be ridiculous in the 85, but it will be more forgiving than the starlet.

if it was a drag only car then starlet.

I think you should make the car as usable as possible, and I don't think that anyone would argue that the starlet would be easy to drive with lots of power. providing you can keep the balance right on the 85 I think it would be the best option.
That would be a mean car if it worked together well.

i dont see any problems with that power in the starlet.

its really down to how well its built.

theres HEAPS of massive power starlets out there

I only know of one in the Wellington motorsport circles and it is apparently a handful. It is also SR20DET powered.

Id go AE85, End of the day, panels arent really dearer for the 85, Every single body part is so readily available in fibreglass and cheap as chips too, Same goes aftermarket mechanical parts. AE is cooler, longer wheelbase, aftermarket parts are stupidly readily available and would get my vote everytime.

Otherthing is too, a KP can have about a max of a 6" rim in a descent offset before it needs big boxy flares, stock AE will take 7.5" + all day long.

In my mind, I can see the swap being cool in an 85 but really doesnt appeal to me in a KP.

i saw 3 high power starlets at alexander road.


ppl have been putting everything from V8s to 1ggtes in kp60 since they were new!

its all in how u build it.

The original poster is intending to put a 200+rwkw engine in. I don't remember seeing anything close to that in a starlet at Alexandra road. Anyhoo... my comments are made with the thought of the finished car being in excess of 200KW.

I would find it hard to decide between ae85 and kp60 myself, so fence sitter right here :lol:
