Dialup or (so called) Broadband?

Postby snwtoy » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:42 pm

Just wondering what percentage of people are still on dialup, as so many msg boards I frequent are STILL going nanas over people posting large images etc in threads.

I realise that in NZ, some of us still get capped down to 56k, but in the rest of the world they don't usually...

Im paying a crapload more for a service that only seems to prove itself a few days each month  May as well go back to dial up, at least that way I only lose 3-4 days of good speed and pay a hell of a lot less.

Telstraclear cable modem plan, very happy with it, it is only 2mps download/upload but it's consistant, Friends i know on the unlimited plan with xtra have slower than dial up speed uploading sometimes

Bandwidth caps are a freaking joke, I used to download like 6-7 gigs month on dail up for crying out loud, the only real advantage broadband has is that you can use the phone at the same time

I don't know how anyone could live with dialup in this day and age, websites and pics are so massive these days. Even crappy NZ broadband is better than 56k.

Thats not xtras top plan. You can get like $150 or more plans that go really fast but you get like 60 GB a month or something, can't remember the details, we have one at work though.

149.95 if you have your tolls with Telecom and you get 50GB.

I'm on the $99.95 plan (30GB) and it's fine.

Download speed is the same across the board but upload varies on some plans.

Yeah thats the one I was meaning. It might also be faster for the one at work because theres only one broadband line on the local exchange and thats us.

At home we have unleashed and it seems to be getting slower lately but I only use it when I come home once a week so maybe I'm just used to speeds at work.

Im the only person who has cast a vote for being on Dial-Up. Cant stand it much longer, getting broadband next month :D But im sure ill look back fondly on my days of dial up, downloading a song at 3kb/s on a good day.

I must admit I'm on dailup  :( But a friend of mine, who is on boredband (haha Their words, not mine) says my dailup connection is faster on some sites than their connection. Go figure.
And another friend downloads songs using dailup. And it only takes a few moments.
