So you know the result, Yes we had to outlay some cash, But I see it as an investment, But to each their own, so what do you think?

yes for me, certainly a good investment that reaps returns well in excess of the money invested by the government

I'd rather see the money spent on a sport that doesn't put me to sleep.

I dont mind the fact the government is helping out, but i feel it is alot of money thats going on something that not everyone supports. I do feel happy when NZ does, as you do when we win anything, but if we dont win oh well, its not the end of the world.

How about lowering petrol costs or taxes, at least it benefits everyone.

and who the hell is impersonating me?!

nothing against yachting... but i dont see why the gov pays so much, when a hell of a lot less will have greater effect/benifit on so many other things

Eh? They already fronted 34 mil for this one (sure that was a bit late, but at least they learned from the mistake)....

I'm all for it too. Money well spend. I've got a sore throat from screaming at the tv last night. More exciting than any rugby game without a doubt.

I think your looking at the now rather than the future, Sure less tax will benefit you short term, but it will take money away from other areas it's needed.

Also there is nothing that everyone will support, if you think like that then nothing will ever get funded, Like for instance, The councils etc give funding to art museums etc which I would never set foot in, but I don't mind, everyone has different tastes.

Because they get more than their investment back so they can spend it on other things, simple economics. Simple equation is $34m out, and probably several hundred million back in, gives them more to spend/waste on other things ;)

Nothing you have suggested will give them any return for their money.

Healthcare, a drop in the Ocean, and no return.

Roads, same deal.

Hampton Downs, don't make me laugh, there's no money in promoting Motorsport, and certainly not within NZ. Even then the govt gave $2m to Taupo for the A1GP, can you see any benefit from that?

Latest figures from H/C 20 millon dollars returned to the govt in income tax alone, from their 34 millon investment, directly as a result of the America's cup. I would say that the total benefit to the economy far out weighs the investment. But I would like to see them invest 34 millon on the likes of Manfield, or another lesser track  , as well and secure the international races that we deserve. That too will have a huge impact on our economy.

Well, I have a position on watching sports (any sport) - I hate it. Even motorsport. Unless I am right there amongst it.
Well I have not played meat head sports since I was in school, I remeber ever soccer match we had ended up in a big fight, every basketball match also ended up in a big fight.
Ice hokey? no problem - even before it starts people already fighting....
Watching rugby is so boring compare to the excitment I had in school from pushing elbow in some ones ribcage, or trying to force foot through some ones ass. Who cares about asshat with the whistle - he will get his part as well (while trying to separate someone). Oh and the spectators had their own fights. Oh and I did not take PE in NZ. I had no choice back home - PE was compulsory. We were left alone in the field, while teacher was consuming his 40% Ethanol solution. You cannot leave the game or the team mates will kick your ass. You have take part in it with all enthusiasm other wise you will get your ass kicked for not taking one for the team.
Luckily we did not had golf or base ball games - otherwise there would be a few people with brain damage (although I doubt that would make much difference in their lives).

I hate sports. Time and energy could be invested into something else more producting (like invading some small coutnry or something).

P.S. please don't take me very serously.
