Which engine for my project aw11?

Which engine should go into my project aw11?
I want to keep costs reasonably low, so give extra thought to pricing
Also, I'm no engineer, so simplicity is good.
But then, I want something that's going to be a barrel of fun...
Any other suggestions are welcome!!!

s/c 20v will require abit of fab and wiring and $$% around, 2nd/3rd gen 4agze is better than 1st obviously.

I agree - but a 2nd or 3rd gen is still more messing about than a 1st gen from an aw11
20 valve is easier to get hold of, and likely will be in better condition...
What to do...

3rd Gen 4agze - Gotta Love those smallports!

make it handle like nothing before, that would give you more fun probably than straight line speed.
i'm sure any late model 4agze would go down nicely though!

Fun is the main thing I'm after

if cost is an issue, id go n/a silvertop and focus on getting the most from that. suspension, brakes etc.

Yes - I'm leaning toward that... I think I could drop a N/A 20 valve in to begin with, then SC it later on when I get bored with the power...

I agree with Matt. A 20v makes for a very zippy AW. Quite a bit of custom wiring needs to be done though. My flatmate XS1V did a 20v -> AW conversion for HELBND a while back.

drove a mates blacktop aw the other day, found it to be a totally different type of fun to an SC with a 12psi pulley.
Either or will be worth it mate

if going 20v, go blacktop.
blacktop >>>>> silvertop
not biased at all

Yes - just reading on that.
I could start with a blacktop, and when it comes to SC it, use the stronger internals from a silvertop, or just leave it as it...

if you really want the SC, then start with it imo.
SC = torque
blacktop = rev happy
depends how much power you want I guess....
if you are that serious then go SC then turbo, SC will only get you so far before you have to go turbo to get more horses.
if I had money for a new engine for my starlet it would be for a blacktop, I just love how it revs.
just my 2c though, different strokes for different folks
at the end of the day, a lower powered but better handling car will often beat a car with too much power / lack of good handling.

i dont think black top is worth the extra $$$
silvertop is fine and just as "rev happy"

Good point
However, it's really a chance for me to say "these are my options, what does the experienced community reckon?"
Based on the responses, it seems like a NA 20 valve might be a good option to begin with...
If at a later date I decide to SC it, I could lower the compression, and possibly give it some stronger rods.
I'm after something that is fun to drive, and not necessarily going to do sub 12 second quarter miles

I'll put the blue top in the gita, and put its 2jz in the aw11.
FS: 1.6 gita - goes like stink! (read crap)
