Older Cars Vs Modern Cars

Postby celica_xr9145 » Mon Apr 27, 2009 1:44 am

What do you prefer, older cars or modern cars.

I personally like older cars pre 1999, for example, a 1990 celica gt4 4wd to the 2000+ celica fwd.

Some of the new shape cars are nice like skylines and evos but i find a lot of new cars very plain and blend in, especailly hondas.

Same with old skool, i prefer old skool escorts, ae86's and capri's to the new escorts (apart from the rs cosworth), etc

Whats your opinion?

I'm not really have a fan of a particular era of cars, as every era has its gems.

Eg, I'm obviously a fan of SW's, from the 90's. I'm also very fond of the Whaleron... I mean Veyron.
The 80's and 70's have heaps as well. My flatmates '88 M3 is amazing for its age. Would give modern cars a run for their money.

And need I say, Sierra Cosworth? ;)

Then theres stuff coming out lately which is really cool, just when you thought makers were getting soft. GT-R, IS-F, 370Z etc.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

It depends on the car...

I prefer new Skylines(R34+) hate older.
I prefer ST205 Celica to older.
I prefer new RX7 to older.

But I prefer older Corollas to newer.
And american cars, older is way better.

That's a pretty broad question, how do you definine old and modern? For me its the era I grew up in. SW20s EF8 CRX EG Civics and stuff. Older cars just don't do it for me and neither do the newer ones :)

I think the complete opposite, any old 'square' cars are boring to me and most have no shape, whereas newer cars like Supra's, RX-7's, Skyline's (R33-35), Porsches, etc. etc. will turn my head a hell of a lot more than an old car would.

The only exception I find with this is the old american cars, they turn my head, but I'm never really impresed with them too much.

Brandon

I put my vote to old as there are some really nice classic cars. Still like the styling of newer cars such as s15, r32 gtr, r34 gtr, r35 gtr, rx7 (s5 onwards). But there are some old cars that i would say their styling is 'interesting' but not my cup of tea

ofcorse a supra, rx 7 or a r35 skyline and pourches ect are going to get your attention... but how many new corollas or camrys or anything like that make you look twice???? its called the exception not the rule (personaly)

well obviously, it's an opinion

A lot of new cars turn my head, as long as they're are in good condition - for instance, today, I saw an aurion that looked like it was taken car of very well (waxed, etc.), that turned my head more than any other car today.

A lot of modern cars seem to have lots more power/torque from the engine, but it only compensates for the weight difference from the previous model of the car. All the bells & whistles in the cars just make them harder to work on and tinker with IMO, so I don't like most modern cars.
Besides, modern car styling follows current fashions, so all new cars look similar... they do to me anyway.
