Just noted recently appears to be a couple of petrol stations charging surcharges for petrol... just wondering if other people are aware of this/ checking for it/ even bothered by it...
Try and vote based on what you have been doing whilst paying for petrol, as opposed to what you will do now, if you were not aware of it.
Feel free to add comment if I've missed options etc.
NB articules on it here -

im sure it was against visa's policy for suppliers to pass over the visa fees... my issue is that most of the time you've already put the gas in your car its not until you go to pay with visa your told its now more, its not like you can back away from it if visas your prefer method of payment, some ppl only use visa then pay the account monthly to avoid costs but gain rewards via air points etc.

Its a bit crap, as Adydas says you dont often know until you go to pay for it..but I guess at the end of the day, petriol stations need to make money, and the credit card fee they have to pay would pretty much wipe out the margin on the fuel itself.

BP in Meadow Bank has a surcharge, and there is a note on the pumps to inform you of that. Dammit. I may have to go further afield for 98 now, but its probably not worth the $1.60 or so to go out of my way to avoid paying it.

Why would you use credit card to pay for petrol? Unless of course you forgot/lost/broken your eftpos card.

Just make sure you always have a 4c of voucher with ya to offset the cost if you don't usually have vouchers.
I usually pay of eftpos otherwise the credit card situation gets a bit daunting
I don't even check the price of petrol these days anyway, as I need it, so can't opt out for a cheaper / alternative product. Anyone else noticed the price is heading for $2/L again though?

googled it...
Merchants will no longer be prevented from applying surcharges to payments made by credit cards or by specific types of credit cards. Merchants will also be able to encourage customers to pay by other means.

would this surcharge affect debit cards? they're supposed to work like an eftpos card, but it's still pretty much a credit card isn't it?

EFTPOS ftw
Did however notice a note at local BP stating they do not add a surcharge

Meh, its only 90c ish and you get up to one and a half months to pay what you bought. Still cheap credit if you pay it by the due date.
The profit margin on fuel is absolute shite as it is and most credit card co's charge the retailer 1.5% so I think its only fair they try to get all the profit they can.
BTW, I've never paid for gas in my life on a credit card so I could be biased

Id avoid the ones charging the surcharge... then admit defeat when everyone starts doing it.
Visa is great for true rewards and as long as I pay it off in 60 days there is no interest charged... great way to leave cash in the orbit account a bit longer...
