Yeah, and what kind of statistics you would have without know how many people chose not to vote. In real voting you could tell from turnout numbers....

We need a new voting option, a negative vote.
So say I don't care who's in, but I really don't want a particular party in, then I should be able to cast a negative vote for that party... this would give a fairer representation of what voters want.

A no vote does not count, on election day you can win 50% of all voters who bother to show up and cast a valid vote and run parliament. Not voting is deemed to be irrelevant as the results are only for those who DID vote not those who could. If you don't like the voting options form your own party or keep quiet.

I'm not going to argue they are wrong to not vote, just interested as to what their reason is.
There is no right or wrong choice.
You're wrong

Protest vote.
I'd vote for ACT if they actually get back to libertarian laissez faire basics.

It doesn't matter who wins the election,
or who comes second.
The Party that gets the 3rd most votes controls who gets the big chair by who they team up with.
If national got 40% and Labour got 40% and Bill and Ben get 20% of the vote,
Bil and Ben can name thier demands and side with whoever agrees wioth them first to form a joint govt.
Isn't that how the Maori party got to control this country last time?
Bring back FPP and Dump MMP !!

And this is why a negative vote option is required IMO.

Matt pretty much nails it on the head. Plus people who seek power only do it for their own interests. They're all crooked as a Christchurch high rise.
It's our democratic right not to vote, heaven forbid we wind up like Australia where you get fined for not voting. Personally, none of the parties represent my interests or make a difference to my life in a meaningful way. I still get up every day, shit, shower, shave and go work, the world continues to go round and I get paid. Since stopping watching or reading the news I've realized that government politics the only thing of note that's come to my attention is having to press 2 less buttons on the calculator when working out GST…
