I'm looking into buying myself a late model diesel, 2wd, double cab ute for work purposes upto around 25k and no older then 5 years old. I'm not fussed if its only a base model and just want to hear some opinions, cheers

everyone i know that has a late model hilux has had problems with them, unfortunately they arent bulletproof like the old ones
we have holden rodeos for work utes, and they are rattly as hell and arent particularly enjoyable to drive
my vote is for the ford ranger/ mazda bt50, they are pleasant to drive, go pretty hard and reliable too

What about Navara's? My mate has an '07 STX (4WD double cab) with the 2.5 common rail and 6 speed box, and i was VERY impressed with how well it goes, and the spec of it.

For an extra $5k you can buy a brandnew one

In the drop down box change the selection...

Opps forgot to add in Navara. Yeah they have a couple of the DX Navaras at the Nissan dealership but once you had in all the extras like a tow bar, canopy and deck liner it becomes about 10k more then I want to spend. cheers

yeah my mate at the engine recos said some of the new toyota motors (found in hiace/hilux) are crap, crack heads etc. plus they are super expensive.
ive driven new holdens and they are average, didnt they have ECU issues???? pretty crappy imo.
i havnt driven the narvara or ranger, but they would get my vote.
ranger is probably cheaper than the narvara too

Voted Hilux of course but the Ford Ranger/Mazda BT50 are good vehicles as far as I've seen. The Navaras are very good also. The interior is nicer on the Ford/Mazda though

they have to meet the same standards as everyone else to be complied here

I didn't think the standards are as tough for utes/4x4s as they are for cars?

prob not, but nevertheless they will have to meet the same standards as other utes

My guess is that they probably only *just* scrape past those standards, whereas the other (non-chinese) ute's probably well surpass them.

Stay away from albany toyota, My builder bought one from them and it had electrical issues and they $$% him over royally, luckily north shore toyota put it right.
I've also had several negative service experiences from the albany toyota workshop.

Cheers for the advice about Albany Toyota, if i do go for a Hilux it will probably be through NorthWestern Toyota as they seem to have the best range and prices.

Cant say on Albany Toyota, but my parents bought a brand new hilux from North Shore Toyota and had nothing but great service (going back a few years tho!)

Ive got a brand new Ranger for a work ute and im not a fan to be fair
thirsty
wheelspins too easy
too basic
had diesel filter problems
not that great
Mines 4x4, and Ive had it stuck places the old Courier would have pissed out of
The old Courier I had (think it was an '05) was better in general, although slower

Yeah - I'd agree with that. Years ago they were brilliant, but now, I wouldn't bother.
