Wgtn weekly meeting

Postby neo » Mon Oct 03, 2011 9:43 pm

http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=34994

Announcement: Thursday Weekly Meet - Animates OldHutt Rd - 7pm

from the Wellington / Lower North Island Region.

Does anyone still go, I suggest, unless their are some regulars, we should remove the announcement, and organise meets ad hoc.

This is not liked the the casual get together that sometimes occurs at BF lower hutt.

A couple of years ago, I went to the animates meets 3 or 4 times and met some good folks who I continue to keep in touch with, but I havent been to one in a very long time. Do they still happen?

I would probably be keen to attend more "meets" if something remotely car related actually happened, rather than just going and eating a burger in the Hutt.

I would prefer to spend the $20 that it costs for a burger, fries and a drink, on putting gas in the car and going for a nice drive somewhere. Especially during the summer months when the days are longer.

They don't really happen Reith. I tried to get back into them a while back. Turned out that those showing up were Luke, myself, 2-3 Skyrines and 2-3 Honda's. Not exactly a Toyota meet (but I'm not discriminating).
Those of us who did were more or less friends before showing up to meet other people (of which no one really turned up anyway). So we just do our own thing now.

Intergrating a meet with Palmy/Manawatu members could be an option for the summer?

$20 would get me to pram, but not back. As above, would make an effort for something local each month

I found personally when I started attending the meets, only a small portion of people were friendly enough to even talk to! Now I realise everyone has differing personalitys etc, but if the meets want to be successful, as a club more effort needs to be done to welcome new faces and make them feel apart of it all. Just a suggestion.

Many years ago I went to a megameet (when Ben was in "charge", before this board existed), parked up to bunch of toyspeeders, they completely ignored new faces, the group was split up in 3-4 people subgroups who were ignoring everyone else around...

I used to always introduce myself to the new people, then people slowly stopped turning up to events. No doubt it was related

Thats a shame, I dont quite see the point in going to a "meet" if you dont meet the small group of people that are there. In saying that though, Its not exactly hard going up to someone and putting your hand out for a good ol kiwi shake. Often people perceive shyness as aloofness, but once the introductions have been made, most people then open their mouths and start talking.

Again, very sad, and defeating the purpose of a meet :( Maybe they should have called it a megaignore?

The few times I went to the animates meets, which was a couple of years ago now, I found everyone very welcoming and friendly. Everyone was involved in the same conversations, and everyone showed an interest in each others cars. Just the way a meet should be, really.

Very much the same as the group of us who go for lunch/drives occasionally. Everyone talks about what they have done their car lately, or the dreams they have atleast ;) Personally, when I am around others, I want to know about their cars, as I already know everything about mine.

Anyone who wants to meets some GC's who are friendly, and who talk to others, feel free to come along next time we have a meet. Its mainly supras to be honest, but everyone is welcome :)

I'd probably come along to a monthly meet, I have a fraction more time these days. Not enough for weekly though
