MA61 or S14?

Postby deaf_rattle » Mon Nov 14, 2011 8:10 pm

Looking at options at the moment
With the insurance payout ill be able to get the ma61 fixed up sooner, rather than later (friend who crashed it isnt in a position to pay at the moment)

Although i do have some cool ideas id like to do to it later (long term project status)

So, should i harden up and fix the beast, or start with something newer and possibly better in a lot of ways.

Really liking the "moderness" of the s14 compared to the ma61, but having a hard time deciding what to do.

cheers

easy choice then - MA61.

step A, save up plenty of money
step 2, get the bitch fixed if you must use that shell (not sure how economical it would work out to repaint a new shell etc?)
step III, get a $&#$% gearbox that can handle that ridiculous engine !!!

its been my relatively limited experience with this shit that when a car is plaguing you with problems, its a nightmare and you just want done with it. you are well used to that im sure. but you probably also remember what its like for those few times the box was not misbehaving and the car was running well to just enjoy all the hard work.

so i reckon a tough as nails manual box is the key.

and S14, meh. people are just going to assume its got an RB, and that you like it in the bottom. but seeing an MA61 looking tight and making all that noise would be something special.

MA61 is more interesting than S14, BUUUUT you have commented on giving up of the thing so many times over the months/years (prefering more modern cars, 80's rust, the car being cursed etc etc). Even in your posts above you're already showing your doubts on actually wanting it anymore.

To me its pretty obvious you want something else, so is it worth spending the money on version3/4?

Just food for thought.

yeah for sure. I kinda want to hang onto the ma61 for another day when im in a better frame of mind, settled down etc.
Just been offered the s14 wreck for $1k, so im thinking i might buy it back and sell the parts and stuff not needed from the s14 and then buy another s14. i dont think id lose anything if i then decide to sell the new s14 in a few months. hmm

Easily S14 for me, MA61s are kinda cool - potentially "cooler" but ultimately S14s are as you say, far more modern which brings with it more fun to drive (handling on them is really nice), more parts availability, more reliability, and therefore overall more fun to be had if you aren't tied up with the stigma of having something different.

sound to me like you want neither of them. ma61 staying a long term thing and something modern in the meantime would be my option

i think u should buy my S14 instead :P turbo manual facelift

Just get a MA70 donor, and a MA61 shell, send it all up here and I'll get started

MA70 front and rear might work pretty nicely. I can even graft in the S14 interior to make it feel more "modern" for you if you want :D
