How many cars will finish the first Formula One race in 2014

Postby Mr Ree » Mon Feb 24, 2014 11:07 am

Given the massive regulation changes for 2014, with turbo charged 1.6 litre V6 engines, couple with various ERS (energy recovery systems) and the seemingly unreliable new era of cars during testing(mainly Renault powered), how many cars do you think will make it to the flag?

I think around 10, or almost half the field will fail to finish, or they will be driving so far off the pace to ensure reliability, that should the 107% rule be applied to race cars, they would be black flagged for being too slow.

Exciting times ahead, and RBR only have one more 4 day test next week to try and get to the bottom of their, and Renault's PU issues.

Why is it called the 107% rule and not the 7% rule?

Because the cut off rule for running in the race is that you must qualify within 107% of the Pole position time, not 7% of the Pole time :)

Allowances are made for certain circumstances, but generally, the car in question will have had to put in a lap with the 107% during any of the 3 free practice sessions that weekend.

Dont follow F1, but does that rule mean that if pole is 2min then every one else must be less than 8.4sec behind?
