Turbo vs. Supercharger

Postby Silent Knight » Wed Sep 17, 2003 12:33 am

I was just sitting on my own adding up the pros and cons of turbos and superchargers and was wondering which you guys prefer considering everything from extra petrol costs to wear-and-tear on your pistons.

Turbo because the whole point of the no lag with superchargers is kinda lost on my car since it is very rarely under 3000 revs and i would get pissed with the lack of boost efficiency with the s/c in the top end (refering to the gze)

But then again with engines like the A-series Mini engines (1275cc push-rod ancient-ness) you wouldnt want to rev it very high so supercharger would suit. Therefore having good torque when pulling away but you dont need to rev it out and watch little car go boom.

I guess my point is that it depends what engine/car and what its used for.

2 votes for me then!!

well i'd have to say supercharger coz turbos are a bit wanky when you think about all the times you have seen people with wank wank valves getting stimulated by how many times you can set it off in 10 mtrs

well evlgtz i give you full credit for your car coz it is really amazing and you represent toyotas i even bummed my "mate" out with a gtx who said there is no way a 1600 will be abe to get in the 13s so i informed him about your conquest and have nothing against you personally if you don't do the wank factor sh;t the only thing i wanna know is your turbo on your car after market or is it just a factory one off another 1600 make? coz if it's aftemarket it can't really be compared to a factory supercharger aftermarket turbos are in another level turbos are better for the aftermaket range = faster more power etc but in the wrong hands... any car can be rice howick is a laugh fest.

haha yeah its not that hard to get a 1600cc into the 13s at all. Well its a pretty much a factory turbo but it aint off any 1600, evo3 actually.

Even a gze with a lil td04 off a 1600 gsr cyborg would put the factory s/c setup to shame IMO.

Boost is better... Even though supercharger has better pickup and no lag... There is nothing like the big power and awesome pull that a turbo makes
