The expected Wellington to take off more than Auckland when it became capital, but its really reversed. If Wellington had the growth and population of Auckland if would be just as congested as Auckland. As its been said Wellington is really not comparable to Auckland from a geographical stand point. We have a massive land area to collect from, so its hard to develop a public transport system that will service all areas.

Wellington's traffic is bad enough, but is nothing compared to Auckland. I really don't envy anyone who has to drive anywhere in Auckland in peak (12) hours. I just don't think I could handle it every day. I had a 1 hour drive home a couple of days last week (a trip that usually takes 1/2 hour max) and that was bad enough!

I'm not in any way trying to say that Wellington has a traffic problem like Auckland, coz I know we don't. I mean any large city where lots of people live out of town, but work in the CBD is gonna have traffic problems, but unfortunately for Auckland, their's is a million times worse!

But when you're sitting in peak traffic in Auckland, just think of the people in India/Asia who can literally go and have a meal, leaving their car in the traffic jam coz it moves that slow!

No matter how bad things are for you, there's always someone out there who's got it worse!!

One thing i noticed when i was up there yesterday is the petrol prices are cheaper there than they are in the south island which is bullshit and our roads are just as $&#$% as Aucklands. We dont want to be paying for Auckland roads but do we have a choice?... umm NARP!

If you have a greater market size you can afford to sell for less and still make the same profit.

Petrol prices vary from station to station in Auckland. This also depends on the cost of land, and also the operating costs(overheads).

i know its not much, but good enough for me!

Just go to a pak n slave gas station after shopping and use their discount coupons. Due to regularly spending over $150 on food, the discount currently keeps the price of 91 octane(used in the 323)under $1 per litre.

Fuel is supplied by BP so it's not some weak budget mix or anything

Someone idiot said the distance from the source increases the price. Err, i'm not sure on this, but as far as I know Auckland hasn't moved further away from the South Island, i'm no expert on continental drift but i'm pretty sure Auckland is static, if anything it's increasing in size making it closer to the South Island.

For the rest of you agreeing with that and proving yourselves retards. Go ask your parents how much meat and milk has increased in price in the last decade or two. It will be a lot more than 3% a year.

Here's a small economics lesson for you tards. I don't even take economics and I know more than you dipshits. The farmers can get lets say $16 a kilo over seas for their top quality meat and say $10 a kilo for it here. They'll send it all overseas to maximise profit, so we have to pay the same amount minus export costs. However that is way to expensive, so they charge a little less than that for lower quality meat. Sure that's their choice to make, but it's an unpatriotic one, so why should we help them if they are raping our wallets?

err, i dunno where you usually get your overpriced fuel from but its always only 1c a litre cheaper at old hutt rd caltex selve serve!

For how hard they work they deserve to get top dollar for their product! And i dont think we get that much rubbish meat in nz, Ever been in other countries and experienced their meat cuts?

As for the cheaper petrol in the north island, sometimes yes, sometimes no, I venture down south quite a lot and i've found the prices to be exactly the same north and south except in the very rural areas (mt cook= 1.27 alitre for 96)

The further you generally move away from marsden point (the big old refinery) the more expensive petrol gets to an extent, except for Auckland for some reason, its always cheaper there than small towns closer to the refinery(go figure) Why dont they make Aucklands fuel prices the same as the rest of the country, maybe that would slightly help out the roading problem, The way i see it they should call it a public transport problem rather than a roading problem, why dont they invest the $$ into installing monorails etc and follow the sucessfulness of Sydney and the likes?
