ok u gota pretend i know nothing about cars, cos really i dont.

wot r the first things to do to a ae111 to work it up a bit

i put a pod filter on myself but im sure it made it slower, and if also heard that u cant really work then because most of there power comes from them being tuned so finally.

ne help would be good
cheers

What type & brand of poddy is it?

Where is the poddy mounted off the throttle body?

Has the ecu been reset after this modification?

I have 3 mates with ae111s and putting a pod filter takes away the bottom end power for some reason, on all 3 of them!!, and yes it had cold air going to the filter.
But it sounds nice so they dont care.

lol,
any way, umm fst thing i would reccomend is getting a aftermarket exhaust system, they are always good. then maybe start doing response stuff like new leads ?. then you can start fiddling wif ecu and stuff.

and a new ecu for agresive cams, then you realise you have spent so much money you might as well have turbo'd it from the start

Does anyone have a picture of such setting??

I can't imagine how one can put a pod filter on individual throttle body.

Maybe they have small ones.

Thx

blk top mods

Postby ROBODISCO_20v » Sat Apr 10, 2004 2:12 pm

We'll i'll tell you what mod's that have been done on my blk top.
HKS pod, NGK iriduim plugs(bkr6eix11), 7mm leads, Full Mandrel bend Exhaust with two hot dog style resignators and small stainless muffler at the rear. High lift cams/I dont know what the are but they have given the engine a much broader power range, they give heaps more torque down low & starting from 4000 and pull hard right thru to the 7900 rev limiter. I'm still running the factory ecu with all these mods. I've driven a few other 111 with intake & exhaust mods and i'd leave them for dead. I'd have to say the mod thats made the biggest difference has to be the cams. it's not the cheapest mod but by far the best i've done. i also found the iridium plugs helped up top, made it rev more freely.
Take from this what you will,im not saying its the only way to mod a blk top everyone has different ideas, but this set up works for me. I will have some dyno figures in the next month or two when i get my licence back. then some 1/4 mile times to do.

YES YES, get these figures as this sounds like an interesting setup and i'm looking foward to seeing how it all pans out, I'd like to see a Blacktop running 14.0-14.5's because people say it cant be done

Wow, that looks like a machine, how heavy is the FXGT in that shape? Assuming its fairly lite you should get there or at least get close(assuming you can drive) My Levin has 95.5kw@wheels with 1040kgs and runs 14.9's so your beast should be able to do this?

FXGT ??? I got a BZG levin.
I've only seen the Corolla in 4dr sedan & 5dr S/W. I'm not sure they make a 2dr hatch back in the ae111. Yes they do, the WRC corolla was an ae111, wasn't it and that was 2 dr and i've seen pics of them in england. but they're equiped with puss box 4afe.

Probably just put a popd on the end of the factory air box instead of the flexi pipe that goes to the factory air cleaner box.

Yep it was on an Australian rally car. He used to post here and had 108kw at the wheels with similar modifications to his engine as mine, head work, aftermarket cams of similar duation and lift, aftermarket ECU, forged pistions, crank blading etc. I run the standard 20 valve airbox and injection on my 16 valve. I have 130kw at the wheels. You can do nothing but loose power throughout the rev range with individual filters. There are two Helmholtz resonators in the standard inlet system. The single filter inlet is tuned to pack air into the airbox at a certain velocity. The second Helmholtz resonator is for each TB, by removing the standard trumpets you reduce the inlet length and effectively tune the car for optimum flow at more than 15,000rpm... which you'll never reach without a custom crank let alone use as your maximum torque.

If you want wank...get some neons.

PS Normally aspirated 16 valve with 130kw at the wheels.
The answer is Helmholtz!
