AE92 Auto - cutting out

Postby Stealer Of Souls » Thu Apr 15, 2004 1:44 pm

Hey there.
My GF's got an AE92 Trueno. Sometimes when you try to accelerate, while in drive or reverse, from a standstill it will cut out. The engine idles fine, but maybe a little low... sometimes goes down to around 500rpm. Any obvious things I should be checking out??

I've already tried some injector cleaner and am planning some new plugs, leads, oil, air filter, and maybe a dist cap since these all need attention anyways.

Thanks.

Hmmm, hadn't thought of that...

Has anyone got any more ideas? Can ECUs cause this problem?

As far as I know all you its all down to how autos work... it really should only do it ocassionally when cold though.

In an auto when you have your foot on the brake the auto clutch thingy is released so when you take your foot off to accelerate the clutch engages with only the idle speeds revs which sometimes isnt enough so it stalls

You could crank up the idle speed

Cool... I'll try that is the general service doesn't fix the problem... That's what we thought the problem might be too...

If this is an AFM engine you should check the black plastic air pipe between the AFM and the throttle body for cracks or any sort of air leak. Wriggle it round with the engine idling, and check for any change in rpm's. Typically an air leak in this pipe will cause erratic and/or low idle speed, and maybe even stalling when the engine is idling and in drive (waiting at the lights).

If the pipe has corrugated sections to let the pipe flex, check these, as cracks can start in the bottom of the corrugations, and they will be hard to pick up with the pipe on the car.
