ROTORS/BREAK PADS - GTZ

Postby PHAT|GTZ » Sat May 01, 2004 2:32 pm

Took my car in for a service this morning, was told that i needed new rotors and also new break pads. The rotors cant be skimmed as they are to thin.

I want to put "ENDLESS" break pads on, not sure where to get them though..anyone know?

Also i need some recommendations on where and wat rotors to put on my car!

Any help would be appreciated!

Ive just got a new complete brake package ordered and paid for, for my AE101 FX, from Race brakes for approx $1000. Im eagerly waiting for it to arrive as my front pads and rotors are shot, have EBC green stuff in the front put in by the previous owner.

The package includes Brembo slotted front rotors, Brembo replacement rear rotors, mintex 1166 pads front and rear, backing plates and 1 litre of Elf mineral racing fluid. Thought it was a pretty good deal myself and it even included freight.

Toyota wanted $144 plus gst for factory front rotors.

Your car maybe slightly more expensive as I think super struts have bigger rotors?

Toyota qouted me, $560 inc gst for genuine toyota front rotors, and genuine toyota break pads, and thats including gst.

Brembo seems to be a good make, a few places have had it advertised..are they expensive? How much they charge you for just your front rotors?

That was $144 per rotor so 288 plus gst for both from toyota,

The slotted front rotors Im getting from race brakes are $175 each plus gst
Front pads Mintex 1166 180 plus gst plus backing plates @ $20 plus gst.

The guy there at race brakes Steve is a top bloke knows heaps about brakes, I reckon its a good deal especially compared to factory replacement prices.

dont you think endless brake pads are a bit of a overkill ?
If you want standard replacement rotors you can lucas brand one from repco/appco for around $100 each retail. Lucas come standard on over half the cars in the world/well there brake pads do anyway. You can also get DBA slotted rotors & slotted/cross drilled for around $200-300 each.
As for pads the Lucas brand is very good and at an average price of $60 a set they're reasonably priced too. Race Brakes do ECB green stuff pads but they are around $200-300. all comes down to how much $$ you want to wast/spend.

Unless racebrake have recently found a supplier for them, they cant supply rotors to fit the superstrut ae101s (20v & GTZ).. DBA list a rotor but no-one has them.. bugger it all.

If anyone can point me to aftermarket rotors for the 20v i would really appreciate it. must be the 275mm diameter ones, not the 238 or 255mm.. otherwise its toyota genuine for me.
