AirCon Re-Gassing - Where and how much?

As the topic says;

I de-gassed when i took the engine out when i did the swap, and was working fine and dandy when de-gassed.

Its also the older refridgerant so would possibly need to convert to R134a

Wouldnt mind some in for when we go to taupo as i am almost certain the windows will fogg.

went down the road from work in onehunga and they quoted $185 and that was coz "car long" didnt really speak good english and was pretty much a prick about it.

So where to get it done?

and a average price?

I was quoted $shit-loads for the conversion when I checked this out. I think it was mid $400's to fix a couple of little switch related problems, convert and re-gas. I also heard on some forum (so dont hold me to this ) that the converted system will be less reliable/have smaller life-span than an original one. If you have any mates who are in the refridgeration (sp ) business see if they can hook you up with some of the old gas (its found in old fridges aparently and crazy-old fridge repairers are said to have small stashes here and there)
$185 sounds like a fair price for a conversion and re-gas compared to my passed experience, although some of us will just avoid that whole hornets nest all together and rip that shit out (what are windows for )

Adrian - I got my AE101 regassed. It needed some new bits to convert it to the new gas. All up it cost about $250 about 2 years ago.

had mine regassed many times, 70 - 120 dollars. always from mobile guys. Give a few a call, most places seem fairly similar prices.

na, they wont use old stuff, its a massive fine. Old system works fine with new gas in it.

cant remember. some russian guy, and another time some indian guy. Ill have a hunt for their cards. What change over are you referring to ? assuming your system has no gas in it, they simply refill it with the new gas and oil...

change over from old refridgerant to newer R134a.

I just degassed it as i couldnt get the compressor off the block when i removed the engine

Yeah he lives in Blenheim so its 20mins (if you are a nanna) from Picton on the way to Christchurch, I have to get mine redone again after my engine was pulled....good thing about the old mans stuff is that he will have the original gas that was first used in the car.....

*technically* you need to get the gas system changed over, around $250 - $300

however, if u play your cards right you might find someone who pretends they dont know. however, dont ask them why they're not changing over? cos legally they're not allowed to fill it up, but most can, but want to make more money out of a conversion

just go round asking about regassing, you'l come across a few that will regas no questions asked, probably around $100 how much mine cost.

or even better, get a smash repair place to do it. these guys get cheap rates from constantly regassing systems that break from crashes, and as they do it on the cheap are usually not too fussed about what gas to put in
