sw20 boost problems (vsv)

Postby mister two » Tue Jun 08, 2004 5:22 pm

okay
i have decided that 9psi just aint enough

anyway i found this article
http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=17260&highlight=boost
and decided to try what is mentioned in the pic.
so i cut the hose to the vsv and bunged up both ends, i used hose clamps etc to ensure that it was sealed.
however now i am only running 5psi, which aint so good
what have i done wrong, i know that i got the right hose as the other one off the waste gate goes to the turbo
any how i unpluged that one and got it boosting to 18 psi (i know that that is not a good idea on pump gas, btw shouldnt it have a fuel cut? or did my aftermarket comp take care of that?)

my guess is that the hose off the wastegate is leaking, but it is so hard to get in there, especially with the oil pressure line in the way!

so for now i am gonna put the whole hose back on in the weekend when i get some time. in the mean time i am gonna have to put up with 5 pound.

cheers

I'd assume the Mine's ECU would have removed the boost cut, but you'd need to be bloody careful as most Jap ecu's run really advanced timing to take advantage of their 100+ octane pump gas.

You'll need to get at the line from underneath the car, it makes life that much easier.

Did you put a boost controller in the line between the actuator and the compressor housing? Cos if you didnt you have just locked yourself into low boost mode.

When my Greddy Profec B is switched off it runs 7psi, which is basically like no boost controller at all.

obviously misunderstood the article...
damn it now i will have to run 5psi till i get a chance to change it all back, or put in a boost controller/bleed valve.

how exactly does a boost controller work? does it just remove some of the pressure (into the atmosphere?) so that the waste gate(actuator?)
thinks that it is running less boost?

went like a $&#$% rocket on 17pound, a whole new car, but me thinks that it wouldn't last too long tho!!!!
hopefully will get it up to 12psi before i sell it.

also where a boost controller would have been there is a t intersection with one part blocked off. when i removed the blockage and the system was no longer sealed it went up to 10.5psi, is this safe? can i leave it like this until i get a boost controller or will it $&#$% somethin up?

cheers
