how do you know if your wheel bearings shot?

how do you know if your wheel bearings shot? ie does it make a particular noise? my car either has dead cv joints or wasted wheel bearings. im pretty sure its the cvs. but any help would be great

Hey man , the easiest way to check if its ur wheel bearing is if you jack up the front wheels and put one hand at the top of the wheel and one at the bottom and try and rock it backwards and forwards if you have play that you can feel than your bearings are shot .
As by noise a cv will make a clicking noise when going round a corner a bearing will make a deep whurring sort of noise which gets louder when you go round a corner Hope this helps.

Otherwise, the easy way is take your car to the testing station and ask if your wheel bearings are shot. They'll check em 4 free, and be honest.

To see if it's your CVs, find a cul-de-sac, and turn full lock in one direction, applying mild throttle, and listen for clicks. Do the same in the other direction. Then you have an indication of which might be worn as well.
