Turboing a redtop?

Postby wannabe86 » Thu Jun 10, 2004 5:48 pm

we got turbo, intercooler, manifold etc. only want to run 6psi, on ae86.
do we need to lower compression? How is this done? head gasket?
how do we get extra fuel to the engine?
what MAP sensor is best to use?
shoul we use any particular spark plugs?

any info is appreciated.

if u doin 6psi just give the engine a rebuild no need to decompres for such small boost just use the red top ecu nd map andd talk to fatke30 he will telll u how to trick the map and some othr little tricks ah + he will make u a manifold if u need it

I wouldnt even waste my time with a rebuild unless the engine was totally poked. Just go for it 8)

You use a decompression plate john bro,
Running a t25 ca18det turbo or sr20... Good drifting set-up like andrews has turbo lag you need boost in lower revrange dto drift good.

um .. you dont need anything in lower rev range to drift good. You just need to be able to drive a car semi good.
4age engine is high rpm power engine anyway so your down low power is always going to be shit.
Decompression plates have a tendancy to blow through cylinders.
Redtop turbo makes massive power with any turbine.
Dont decompress it for anything under 10psi

drifter 4ag; have you run up to 14psi on a stock bluetop (wit heaps of fuel) and used standard compression? is it a reliable setup?

yes i have
its plenty reliable long as your timing is well sorted as well. And you are running a good intercooler .. but any car running 1bar should be using a good intercooler. and as my signature states 1bar on the turbo i was using = 176kw@wheels bo.
But of course it will shorten its life somewhat but nothing for you to cry over if you can do an engine swap every 8months or so .. boohooo ..i blew up my $40 engine boo hoo :P
