my 96 celica went in 4 a new clutch, and when it finally came out, the little ABS light doesn't turn off. ive had it back into the shop and they have checked the sensors near the wheels, and they have also had an auto electrian, have a look at the wires. but still no go!! has any one ever had the same problem?! any advice would b nice. its going to a ecu specialist tommorow, will this help?

Had a mechanic bring a car in with the same problem a week ago.
they had just done c.v.boots in it.
When they had it to biots they had stretched the abs sensor cable and the wiring inside them is so fine it had broken the cable inside. No visable damage on the outside.
They would have had your axels out may be a similar problem.
I patched the cables and made new wiring from the sensor head the the plug.

does the box have a speed sensor for the asb at all?. My supra does. Just thinking if it did maybe it wasnt reconnected/or damaged with your clutch change?
Cant believe im still a member here.

I would agree with this diagnosis, I had the same problem with my Altezza (my fault).
I patched the cables and made new wiring from the sensor head the the plug.

8O you patched saftey critical sensor wiring? Personally I would accept no less than a replacement sensor.

Patched may not be the right word.

I ( qualified auto elec) carefully replced the damaged wiring inside the abs sensor lead.

And at the end of the day I have to do what the customer ( person who pays) wants.

also just a note, i have heard of abs sensors becoming faulty when people undo ball joints. The shock from the hammer hitting the hub can upset them.
I'd be putting my money on "matt dunn" diagnosis first.
How did your auto sparky check the sensors?

well the mechanic sent it to his sparky, and he checked the wires all the way from the sensors to the computer, and he couldnt find any wire damage, but i dnt know how well he actually checked them! but yeh still wasnt been to a computer specilist, cos the guy didnt have the right adaptor! so he getting one sent in, then hopefully he can find the problem!!

damn tht bright ABS light at nite!!! just so annoying!

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

cant comment on your specific car, however - a lot of euros "store" trouble codes, so for example if they removed an ABS sensor while doing your clutch (possible) then turned the car on without reconnecting it, ECU sees ABS problem. reconnecting the sensor may or may not clear the fault light - many VWs, volvos, saabs etc have to have it cleared by a scanner/diagnostics machine.
