Exhaust places in CHCH??

Postby Girvs » Sun Jun 13, 2004 12:35 pm

Unsure if this should be in the CHCH section.
But does anyone know of a good place to go to get a new exhaust put on my car?

I'm thinking of Crowesport.

From what I've found the better exhaust for a N/A Supra is a 2 1/4 Mandrel bent.

Does anybody have any recommendations??

Thanks

Oh and one thing ive found is buy your own flexi. The muffler shops buy them generally from Tyco Flow Control down Iversen Tce and the guy there sold me my 200m length, 76.5mm in. dia flexi for around $50 :)

One large chain exhaust shop wanted $430 off me for less than a metre of piping and a flexi for my turbo mr, i was suppling the rear muffler. I was told the flexis are really expensive and thats what kills the price

Al, $430 is a bit steep. But yeah, he was probably meaning the triple layer stainless steel webbing type flexi, and they are, indeed, very expensive. My 3.5" one I have in my downpipe was about $280 just for the flexi...

Girvs - I had a 3" system on my N/A and it went very well, dyno'd 147rwkw with filter and exhaust... I wouldn't put 2-1/4" on a 3.0l... 2-1/4" is what they put on a good 4AGE N/A exhaust. By all means get some professional advice as I'm only going from experience. :D

Go the supra. :D

Al "Rangiora Exhaust" is that Stephen Crowe's place?

If so the man may make a nice weld, however doesn't know much about the dynamics of a good exhaust system. He plugged up the 4-2-1 system on my race car with the incorrect firing order! He altered it when I mentioned the correct firing order, however it's now got some unnecessary tight bends in the primaries. The exhaust ports were no where near aligned to the manifold, the collectors missmatched to the pipe and I ended up having to shift and shield the battery as he placed the exhaust far too close. An expensive exhaust system that I'll have to replace one day because I know it's costing me a few hp.

A majority of places including Stephen Crowe run with Coby collectors, they are cheap but they are cheap. Collector angle is tapered too fast and they aren't a baffled collector in any sence. It's not a good buy when your paying good money elsewhere (intake, combustion chamber, etc) to get every last HP.

Autobend know their shyte. I'd still watch any exhaust manufacturer like a hawk!

Ok, so Redmist you recommend I stay away from that place from previous experiences.

So that would leave the others

PC exhaust and
uni-weld mufflers and
autobend/magoo mufflers.

Thanks for your help people, I will make some enquiries 8)

is this the one near jade stadium??

i've had pretty good experience with these guys, although with the owner of autobend / magoo being my mates dad it tends to help

i'd recommend trying autobend first, who will probably send you down there, but having the chat to the guys at auto bend may help you out as opposed to going straight to magoo.

See if they have a kit for your car though, i know they've started doing these, they have skyline kits etc, and with a bit of basic know-how you could fit yourself

I spoke to the guys at Magoo mufflers, they said about $600-$650 as an estimate (I think quest 4 estimated it at $850 a while back).
Thanks for the advice so far guys :)
