AE82 had a flat battery today?

Postby Rollin' » Mon Jul 12, 2004 6:52 pm

starterd the car up 2day to talke the missus to uni, and there was f'all charge to turn the motor over then it went flat.

i hope its not the alternator.

all ive done was drive from tauranga to wellington yestaday (600kms), stoped off at the snow for half an hour and filled up with 96' as they didnt have 98' out in the wops. I dont think I left my park lights on, pretty sure.

so what else could be wrong?

ill try it again 2morro and if it does it again, it ma be the alterrnator...

I had a similar problem in my car about a month ago. It was ok one day and dead flat the next. Turned out it was my battery. Just craped out and had to fork out $120 to get a new one :(

yea, how olds the battery- its about that time of the year when they die. Colder nights mean more power needed to crank.

one pretty common failing in some Toymotors is the alternator screwing the pooch in a big way. It'll drain the battery dead as a dodo in a couple of hours, despite the car being switched off.

This is often then combined with overcharging the hell out of the battery when you do fire the car up again.

AW11 and AE92 both did this to me, with no warning at all. First sign I had was a car that had to be jump started, then the voltage meter spiking as soon as I got the car above idle (along with all the idiot lights coming on).

Cold weather is a good one for killing batteries though!
