I imagine it would have been the standard gt4 one (e150f, same as e150 mr2 turbo but with a transfer case and different internal differential).
Using an adapter plate is what I was getting at, although personally I would make a flange/plate around 10mm thick to suit the 1uz, then mill 10mm off the bellhousing and have it welded on, this avoids any problems with the clutch fork and the length of the gearbox input shaft.
Or you could track down a el21 (I think) Tercel/Corsa/Corolla 2 gearbox, which has the engine mounted longitudinally, but the gearbox comes back around the engine and is fwd. Doubt it would handle the power though...
No idea where to get adapter plates etc made, but go to some local V8 performance shops, they could probably point you in the right direction.
