Indicator colours? Rules?

Postby TruenoBoy » Sun Jul 18, 2004 9:31 pm

Hey just wondering what the rules on indicators are. I always thought they had to be amber at the front and back, with the exception of red on some older vehicles. But i quite often see alot of clear tail lights with red indicators or just plain clear (not amber when blinking). Also I have seen some late model vehicles with factory clear indicators (ie. they are flashing clear and not amber).

Just wondering as my side indicators are just clear and I am also wanting to change my front bulbs to be clear if possible.

Your front indicators may be clear or amber while your rear must be red or amber. You are not allowed to have any white/clear light that are rear facing. :D

Cheers NZ_AE86

I found the facts backing up your info aswell for any people wanting to have a read.

Direction-indicator lamp performance
4. Front direction-indicator lamps must display light
that is substantially white or amber.
5. Rear direction-indicator lamps must display light
that is substantially red or amber.
