5K Carby Tuning ?

Postby z|gen » Mon Jul 19, 2004 6:20 pm

Well..iv finally finished putting the 5K carb onto my 4K manifold, and after about 15minutes of trying to get the thing started, it did, just not quite how i would have liked it to, it sounded like it was revving very high which im sure must have something to do with the tuning of it ?
Now, theres two screw like things with springs on the side of carb, one down near the where you mount it, and the other over by the accelerator butterfly, how do i tune the carb, is in, which way do i turn the screw like things so it is normal again, it never revved like it does with the old 4K Carb..

mate, to be honest id take it to an old skool mechanic who lives and breaths carbs. it is really impossibly if u dont know much about carbs, its an endless hole of effort and at the end of the day for like $50 probly u could get sum old fella who raced a gt ford anglia in the gore grand prix to get it running like a sweetheart. the bottom screw by the mounting plate i think is the fast idle adjustment and the 1 up the top is the air/fuel mix adjustment. somethin like that.

the one down by the throttle butterfly in the center is the mixture adjustment, righty-tighty leans it out if i remeber correctly. the one off to the side is the idle speed screw. turning it in makes the idle faster. if its running too rich it will idle fast too. if you carb doesnt have a manual choke then there should be another screw which will be cold idle speed.

can draw you a crappy diagram if you want.

One will be idle adjustment and the other will change the mix (rich/lean). Screwing in means less air (idle) or fuel (mixture) past the screw which will lower idle or lean the mix depending on which screw you turn.

Someone correct that if its wrong

You'd need a gas analyser to do it right really which would involve taking it to a garage. Would be a reasonably quick job to get it right, but you'd have to pay someone to do it

nope, nothing on top of it at all, i think il take the second option and go to a wrecker, i was thinking of making myself a cold air box and putting a vent on the bonnet, would it be worth it or not really ?
