Hey NZ_AE86, CV joints are part of the front Drive Axles so hence my reference to this section. Yes you are correct the word "CV Joint" is not mentioned but as this is a component or part of front drive shaft / axle then it comes under this requirement and as some other "learned" toy speeders have pointed out are part of and can be failed in a WOF  :!:

Well anyone who fails a car for a CV joint is just being silly! if I was to start being silly (and you can!) I would fail a car because I did not like the guys shoes! As an inspector you can fail a car for anything you like and you can just write on the WOF sheet that you believe the vehicle to be unsafe for use on the road!! And this is in the WOF manual (VIRM).

But it may be best if we don't continue this as we will achieve nothing!! :D

It's not being "silly" as you put it. A Warrent Of Fitness is a safety check to keep the driver of the vehicle , passengers and other road users safe :!: If an authorised technician or Inspector feels a component is not up to warrent of fitness standards or could lead to a failure therefore compromising the safety of road users then a "failed test" is the right outcome.
We are not acheiving nothing as you put it:!: The idea of a forum is a place where questions can be asked. Topics discussed. Answers given and conclusions drawn.

hmm interesting the way i see it if your cvs are rooted you cant drive so yes some how no wof coz you turn up on a tow truck
if they are worn it depends on the person that is doing it and how their day has been etc etc all that does come into it.
hell if they are quite worn and really noisy you could be failed on a noisy car if you get a clever inspector

Well, this will be the last time I post in this thread!!
I have just finished sitting in a room full of WOF inspectors at the latest WOF update course and CV's were one of the topics discussed.
It was stated that "A CV joint can never be the reason for failure of a WOF inspection" "The only time a CV joint could have any effect on the inspection is if the brakes are covered in CV grease in which case you would fail it on the brake system"

Thank you and have a nice day!

Well there you go another mans opinion backed up by the good old LSTA
Despite what you say there are still valid reasons & instances where CV Joints / Boots Have & Will be failed for WOF's. :D

Cheers to you & thanks for being so open minded.

i guess its just wer u go. The WOF techs at work, some are lazy c**ts and will pass things that others will fail. All places are different. For instance, a car came into work for WOF, and ae101 to be axact, (i work at toyota dealership) and had a nice loud growl to it and the guy who WOF'ed it i asked him about exhaust restrictions, Hes a bit ov a bogen himself so he sez, "what restrictions??" Compared to sum grumpy old tech who hate loud exhausts, and claim there IS restrictions. So i reckon for something minor like CV's, depends were and who WOF's ure car. NOT EVERY TECH KNOWS THE RULES

U can NOT fail a WOF from your C.V joints being fuct. however you can fail if your cv boots are torn and the grease from inside is "contaminating" your brake disc.
