gtst mags for sw20

Postby Red2 » Mon Jul 26, 2004 1:46 am

did a quick search but didnt find anything.
are gtst mags ok for a sw20 mr2? i kno they got the same stud patterns, offset "would" be same as they're both rwd?
will 225 tyres be too wide for a sw20? cos the mags hav those tyres on at the moment

thanks in advance :D

i dont know if this helps but cant hurt

ive seen gtst rims on series 4-5 rx7,L300 vans, 1989 cappela"s
so id say theres a good chance the off set is right
cappellas are fwd and the rims fitted nicely

gtst mags are 5*114.3, and i think that mr2's are 5*100 aren't they? not sure, i thought they were the same as celicas, which are 5*100, so yeah, the offset is right, but the pcd is wrong.

i think so anyway :?

Nope, they are the same stud pattern, but the offsets are different. MR2's have funny rear offsets. 225's are fine, the standard 15" rear tyre size is 225, though you do have to have stepped rims/tyres

they will fit... tired it before... just need suitable tyres for them as i found out MR2 can't have too "big" tyres.. need to be low profile.

the reason i ask is i got the factory 15's
all have 195 tyres so wasnt too sure if 225 would be too wide for fronts?

*edit* tyres are 225/40/16
im not too sure if these will fit the front correctly

last time, my gf's got 16" Sparco wheels on her 1990 MR2.
from memory, front are 215/40/16 and rear 225/45/16
something like that.. i can't remember, that's awhile ago.
maybe even 225 front an 245 rear :?

You really have to have staggered tyres on mr2s, unless you like stupid amounts of oversteer. Wider tyres at the back of course 8)

R32 mags bolt on fine (5 stud) There was a SW20 with some on in Blenheim here (yes Al, your mate Garth's! :p) They looked ok, but prob needed spacers on the rear to fill the guards properly

Nissan have a bigger centre ring..

So:

Nissan rims on a Toyota = Yes
Toyota rims on a Nissan = No

I had 215/45's on 17x7's front and 235/40's on 17x8's rear absolutely no rub so 225's shouldn't pose a prob, however like those in the know are stating the front rear stagger is absolutely crucial to handling, if you are keen on the GTST rim's how about trying to find a couple of R32 GTR rims for the back, same design although 16x8's(from Memory), probably impossible to find however 2 by themselves would have little value to the wrong person me thinks  so you never know!!

MR2's have hubcentric rings so make sure you get some otherwise they will rattle like an old whores teeth.
