Will they replace it??

Postby Farmer_dave » Wed Jul 28, 2004 1:34 pm

While driving the other day someone flicked a stone at my windscreen and caused a chip and small crack, When I drove up the mountain the cold air must have contracted the glass cause I watched the crack travel another 12 inches, My insurance covers it so Im not worried, but I want it replaced not repaired, how big a crack can be repaired?? and does the crack have obscure your vision for them to do anything?? any info let me know cheers.

I think they only repair chips up to 50mm across or something like that. If your insurance company is alright with it then just get a new one.

ah but be careful with glass cover... its for glass and labour only... if they have to replace mouldings... you pay not the insurance company.
although there maybe some that do

Ring the Insurance company ASAP. Better get it done sooner than later. In most recent cars, the is part of the structure - it helps hold the roof "up" in a rollover.

dont bother talking to your insurance, just take it to the glass shop and give them your insurance details. From memory, the limit of a repairable crack is 4cm. Repaired cracks will often reappear anyway, in which case the glass shop will replace your windscreen at your insurance companies cost.
