There is 3 different types of CT12

CT12 = 1GGTE twin turbo, I'd imagine one of these on your starlet would probably be even worse than the stock CT9?

CT12a = 1JZGTE twin turbo, don't know how much of an upgrade one of these would make but they are ceramic and relatively fragile.

CT12b = 2JZGTE & 1KZ-TE Diesel, again ceramic, probably a good upgrade but might be hard to track down and I'd have no idea if it'd fit.

To be honest this would probably be your best bang for buck bolt on turbo upgrade.

the CT12's have a cold side outlet about the same diameter as a 20c piece...

CT12a might be better but if you are going through the trouble of upgrading... you'll prob have to have a custom manifold made, and if youre going to go through that trouble, you might as well stay away from toyota turbos unless you want to hybrid one?

I have heard about the Familia GTX turbo wheel(s) being used... might wanna have a lookie on www.starletcentral.co.nz

just some thoughts...

i can remember a while ago some 1jz supra owners were kicking around the idea of upgrading the ct12a's with ct9 internals, so it would probably still be a downgrade for you going from a ct9 to a ct12a.also the rebuild price on them is expensive, so would be better spent on a turbo that wouldn't cost so much to rebuild later on

they both suck, not worth the trouble really, only way to go is to get a decent turbo and custom manifold

if you dont want to do that you'd be best to hiflow the ct9. EP71-4agte can stort you a hiflow for a good price :)

I have seen that article, i had a copy of it up on ClubAW but its down again :/

The reason they use the CT9 shafts is because the're steel...

i looked into it a while back... $1400 for 2 - not tooooooo bad
