a mate of mine (i think dales on here) is doing it, using a 7afe and a s/c mr2 to make a 1.8l s/c. should be interesting. there was a 20v 7age turbo in australia, www.turbofast.com.au, and some ppl have done it on www.club4ag.com

ive thought about making a s/c 7age before, but have been told that the conrods are too weak so the cost of new ones put me off.

yeah ive just done it, just going thru the tuning stage at the mo with the link. good low down torque, pulls really well. definately worth it, be heaps better once run in and fully tuned

Have a search on the net for it, its been done a fair few times. I was looking at it a few weeks ago ask I want to make a 7AGTE (7A block, crank etc, 4AGE head and a turbo). Found a few good reads. You'll need a longer cambelt, one off a porsche 944 (or 924) is a perfect fit apparently. But if you're actually set on doing this then you'll find these things out with a little searching Best of luck, and if you do do it then chuck up some info about how it went and issues you came across

i saw omething on a site of someone who is very experienced in these sorts of adaptations and he said that the costs out weigh the bennifits
and the result is a higher powered weak engine

no offence to people who have/are doing it this is just what i read

This conversion has been done in many different ways but all you end up with is a weak engine. If you want more power turbo a GZE engine. If you want to go class racing then spend some money on a 16V 4A-GE.

Idea is there for more power and torque but at more money. Yes conrods are weak. Also 7afe flywheel is not as strong, 6 bolts instead of 8, or something along those lines. So less strength in conrods = less max rpm. You can still rev it to the 4age limit with new rods. But in bang for buck wise, better to put the money into better mods for a 4age, like a gze, or turbo. Club 4ag has some good info(you no americans bigger is better) , and the aussie one looks mad. Lots of folding stuff though.

With limited cash stick to a 4age. If your going all out, the 7age might be for you, but only if its done with no expense spared.

As Nick said, I'm giving it a go. My aw11 SC bits all bolted onto a 7afe block. (pistons swapped of course). Yes the rods are weaker but are normally only a problem if you want to rev high. I have been talking to a guy in the states who did the same thing but with a twin charge set-up. Has had no problems with standard rods and is making good power. I just want to try it to be different. Unfortunatly I have not got time to spend on it at the mo (working 7 days) but should be back onto it at Xmas time.

no the block is different has a deck hieght of around 206mm as to the 4a's 190ishmm deck height. Too many people on the net say I heard this and that

Its a stretched and stroked 4A block

Bore on both 4A and 7A is 81mm, storke is 77mm and 85.5mm respectively.
