Six speeder. You're wasting your time with a 6 speed in your rally car.
When they introduced this gearbox in 1996/97 were able to import them for about $2200 new. We probably still can.
We study their ratios carefully because we were about to begin a programme producing FWD Starlet rally cars and thought this box was a cheap alternative to a TRD close ratio kit.
Fact is we decided that instead of there being one redundant gear in the 5 speed, there'd be 2 redundant gears in the 6 speed. It was a waste of time & money.
Frankly it amazes me when I read people wanting to buy them on this forum for their road cars.

hmm bugger, the price of the 6speed has gone up since i last checked...
but may still be able to get it cheap under a special order.

also i gotta agree with trd man here, stock 6speed in a rally car is a waste of time. youd need to get ratios custom made which makes it rather exspensive. the trd gear set for the c56 works quite well, makes ya top speed around 190 (depending on vehicle spec of course) and how many times do you exceed that in a 2wd na rally car?? also the ratios are nice and close

i have had ppl with 6 speeds in their road cars and claim it makes a difference and is a good thing... im still out on that one... i dont think its worth the cost of changing anyway. if you want i can sell you a 6speed knob so it LOOKS like youv got one.....

thanks dude, i have a six speed in my car which i think is quite nice, anyway the car that is being rallied is not mine, he drove my car and liked the six speed, he thought having the ratios closer together he would be able to carry more speed through corners, high in the rev range but not too high that he is getting wheel spin, but thanks for the advice maybe we will stay with the 5 speed and spend more money getting the ratios mint!
Thanks heaps guys :D

Why not try Deane at Palmside...03 338 9151. he has a kit to make your gearbox ratios closer, and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg....I mean, its under $2500-00.......

Yeah, I recommend Deane too, he's an awesome guy. Only problem is that he's in Chch, lol. Has LOTS of cheap TRD parts! :D
