3sge to 3sgte conversion without buying a 3sgte

Postby lvn_mr2 » Tue Aug 24, 2004 7:03 pm

well as the title says, how easy? I have a mint 3sge that i can get for free (1992 version) jut wondering if i buy the intake & exhaust manifolds, pistons, sump, electronics and stuff, can i swap it over to build a 3sgte?

i can build a 4agze this way when starting from a 4age, so can i do the same with the 3s?

Cheers guys!

The exhaust manifold should bolt straight on but I'm not sure about the intake manifold, I've heard that the intake ports are shaped like a GenIII but if going front mount just use the 3SGE intake manifold.
You wont have the piston oil squirters but that shouldn't matter to much, early 4agzes don't have them either and can reliably run high boost.
Sump will swap straight over or you can just modify the 3SGE one and you won't have the oil feed fitting in the block but you can just take that from the oil pressure sender in the head.

I wouldn't say hard no, but would just be so much easier to buy a propper 3SGTE, I forgot injectors as well, 3SGTE's use side feed injectors, not sure about 3SGE's so you might need fuel rail as well as 3SGTE injectors or larger top feeders which wouldn't be hard to find.
