Success!!!! Cheers to RoboDisco and pual chinery!! Cleaned the throttle bodies today with Wynns Throttle Body Cleaner. Bit of a process to removing plenum chamber etc but paul describe that wickedly. Didnt take long and was cheap!!!

Found no oil at all in or around the plenum area however the inside of the throttle body inlets and on and around the butterflies there was a buildup of carbon/gunk etc. With a rag at the ready to collect excess cleaner I sprayed away and with a rub with the rag it was gone. Just followed the Wynns instructions - blew a little funny coloured and smelling smoke when started after cleaning but you have to work the butterflies open and shut while cleaning so am assuming it was just that burning off - you also have to spray into the butterflies while the engine is idling and that does the same smokey thing....... Anyway end result is a car that no longer jerks!!!

Cheers to all who contributed and hopefully this helps some else out....

Yes thanks to all as well! I have done the same process and (fingers crossed) and so far am not getting any engine shudders anymore!

I have also noticed that the intake note has changed sound slightly and now sounds a lil more aggressive!

Finally my life is complete :P

Hmmmm funny this is what my AE111 is doing it jerks while cruising along. I thought it mite be the spark plugs or leads. See what my mechanic says this week after its been in and go from there...

do you know what a throttle body is?

in a 20v the throttle body (there are 4 making it quad throttle) goes from the back of the head to a big chamber (the plenum) and in a blacktop its also black. this is also where your air filter pipe is connected to.

does that clear it up?

These are the throttlre bodies on a 20v.

If you remove the brown & black plastic trumpets, it gives you a little more responsive feel to the throttle. All you need to do is get some replacement bolts as you cant get the ones off the trumpets off. easy!

so whats the point in the trumpets then?

oh and also, i undid the screws with the alan key's, all... 5 of them (3 top, 1 left 1 right), the left one was $&#$% hard, strut bar in way.

anyway, got them off right, now we had to pull the *tin like* cover, which we just COULDNT get off.... i was gonna wedge a screwdriver in but it shouldnt require that much efford.

any reason for this? blacktop btw.... any other quick way to improove performance in these cars?

Your pics dont work bro. Yeh ok I feel stupid now. Pretty easy to locate. So you remove the trumpets to clean out the throttle bodies? So you have to buy new bolts if you remove the trumpets or am i just reading that wrong?

Ok mished it and cleaned out the bodies today. Took off the cover. Saw the trumpets and un bolted them and sprayed the crap in there. Man it was dirty. Sprayed some more in with the engine running and cleaned it all out. Im guessing it was done correctly as the car feels more responsive when the pedal is put to the metal. Still a slight jerk but its not as noticable as before.

Thats quite amazing how something so small can make a difference like that.

you dont need new bolts.

i just pushed mine out of the trumpets, although ROBODISCO_20v obviously couldnt,

if you want to make some noise (and hear some nice induction) dont put the plenum back on,

i did this for about a week, but its not really the best thing to do to your motor (running with no airfilter) but it sounds nice
