I was thinking of buying one of the bolt on honda kits as these come with the link ecu. I would get the toyota piggyback system of course. I can get one of these for around 5g. Do you think I should get full JE internals or do you think the factory Black top could handle 6 pis ok. I'm not looking for a huge gain in Hp just for show really. Then next year for the full rebuild with JE forged internals. I have about $8000 to spend. What are your thoughts. Or do you think I should just go the NA way with new cams etc?
The blacktop engine that your has in it is too weak internally to take boost.
If you try to do it tempory now and then do a full rebuild later all you will do is destroy the engine to the point where it cannot be repaired.
The least you will need to do is replace the rods and pistons.
The best way to do this is to use s/h rods out of a silvertop 20V or a late 16V motor, and to just buy a new set of genuine toyota 4AGZE pistons from toyota.
Other than this you will need a headgasket, rod bolts, and possibly head studs to make it into a good engine able to handle boost.
Then it's just a custom exhaust manifold, a new intake plenium, and turbo, intercooler, whatever etc etc.
Wheather you want to run 6 psi or 16psi the mods are the same.
By buying a honda kit will be a waste as there is probably not much out of the kit you can use apart from the ECU ( which will have to be rechipped for a toyota anyway ) and turbo itself.
