Interesting fact on engine conversions,

For reasons i cant remember we swapped two engine over on mid 1990's starlets. One was a 1000cc and one was a 1300cc.

BOTH cars had to be certed because the were different engines.
Both E series both single cam carbed engines.

Even though we took out a 1300cc and put in a lower powered 1000cc it still required a cert.

im guessing, its coz if the car came out with a 1300 factory, other components were fitted, with the cc rating already finalised, eg suspension, brakes etc. then if u chuck a different size engine in, bigger or smaller, u could be changing the characteristics of these components. THATS were the cert'ing comes in.

*for instance* lets say u swap a 1 litre with a 2 litre... same engine, just different displacement.. u keep factory engine mounts. When u attach this bigger motor to these mounts, intended for a one litre, there is a risk of the mounts reliability.

reasons like this co-inside with safety regulations, and which is why certing is required. i think co-inside is the rite word..

this is WHY I THINK u need certification for smaller engine swaps.
